When KTM introduced the first X-Bow in 2008, many of us thought the famed Austrian motorcycle brand just wanted to take a short break from the two-wheel world. But it's fair to say that its consecration as the ideal toy for having a good time on the circuit has silenced us.
A few years ago the company, following its eternal motto "Ready to Race", launched the X-Bow GTX with the aim of competing in the GT2 class. And now, through a simple 'teaser', KTM begins to show us what its 'street' variant will be: the X-Bow GT-XR.
It promises a lot of fun
For KTM, the acronym XR means 'Xtreme Racer' , which already makes us understand that we are above all a racing car with papers and without concessions, except those just and necessary to allow its status as 'road legal'.
At first glance, this philosophy is fulfilled, since there are few differences in it compared to its “careerist” parent. Ok, yes, the X-Bow GT-XR is not so low to the ground (different tires and suspension), its rear wing is not so spectacular and it has an appendage at the front to house the irremediable plate of registration . But in everything else, it's almost drawn.
And it's not for less, since both share the same carbon fiber structure that gives them body, with slight variations. That gives us an idea of just how ultralight it can be, perhaps enough to push itself into the same league as the recent Lotus Emira .
By engine this will not be the case, since we will find the same five-cylinder turbocharged block signed Audi that it shares with the RS3, or the Cupra Formentor VZ5 to give another example. About the power, KTM does not give up, but it promises us that the sound that will emanate from its exhausts will be throaty and exciting.
Anyway, to know more details about the KTM X-Bow GT-XR, we will have to wait for its complete presentation in September . It is then that we will be able to know if the boys of Mattighofen have once again erased the line which separates the road from the tracks.
