In the end Citroën dared to beach roll: there will be an Ami Buggy production, but in very limited series

Just a few months ago we met the little  Citroën My Ami Buggy Concept , a sort of campy version of the little  Citroën Ami  with very beachy styling and off-road touches, and  now the prototype has become reality:  the brand has just announced that this electric original will finally arrive in production.

Of course, it will do so in the form of  an "ultra-limited" version of 50 units  which will go on sale tomorrow  on the model's official website  and which will go exclusively to the French market. 

Each of them will have a numbered plaque on the dashboard and they will start delivering to homes from August 8.

Open to the sky and without doors

The Citroën '  My Ami Buggy Ultra Special Limited Edition  ' incorporates elements taken from the My Ami Pop and Vibe versions, such as the front and rear bumper reinforcements, the front plate and the headlight protections, the wheel arches and the underbody, and the rear spoiler, which give it a more muscular appearance than in the original version.

As for the distinctive elements of the exterior design of this version,  the absence of doors  (replaced by metal tubes with hinges) or the roof, which is retractable and  has a light gray hood, are striking  , in a nod to the emblematic Méhari. and even some versions of the 2CV.

This protective fabric is rollable, "with a good density, waterproof and with an anti-UV treatment to protect the driver and passenger from both the sun's rays and bad weather", according to the manufacturer. The soft top is attached around the roof opening with press studs and can be easily rolled up and stowed behind the seats.

In addition, the body sports an  exclusive khaki color  that contrasts with the bright yellow details that the prototype already had, and that can be seen on the front plate or in decorative elements such as the direction arrows stuck on the wheel arches. .

This color is also found in aspects of the cabin such as the three compartments of the dashboard, the hook for hanging bags and the opening straps. Also in the seams of the seats or in the carpets.

As for the striking wheels that complete the set, they wrap  striking gold 14" rims  with the trademark double chevron in the center position and have decorative black hub covers specific to this version.

As far as the mechanics are concerned, there are no differences with the rest of the versions of the range, so this new limited series is equipped with the  well-known 8.2 CV electric motor  which allows it to reach a speed maximum of 45 km/h and a 5. .5 kWh battery with an average range of 75 km. When it goes on sale, we will know the final price of this curious version.
