Like all its competitors in the C segment, the Peugeot 308 had to offer a break body. This is now the case: let's get to know the new 308 SW.
Remember, we already offered you a meeting with the “normal” 308 last March. A more than important car for Peugeot, both for sales figures and in terms of perception of the brand's models: the 308 inaugurated the brand's new logo, a style to say the least asserted, a number of new technologies, new engines and so much more. Unsurprisingly, the SW version takes over the vast majority of the characteristics of the compact, with - it should have been suspected - an effort on the practicality and modularity of the car.
Dogs don't make cats: the 308 SW looks… like a 308. The family spirit is certainly obvious, but it is notable that the dynamism of the compact is (at least in the photos) quite preserved. The rear reminds me a little of the design of the Arteon Sportback, which is very far from displeasing me. Desire for style: to optimize the alliance between design and practicality of the 308 SW as much as possible, while not forgetting the aerodynamic constraints imposed by this quest for the smallest gram of CO2. And even if the front does not move an iota compared to the compact, with this gigantic grille and these LED optics (or Matrix LED if you are rich), the profile has the good taste to be at least as expressive than the latter, with overall little effect of style.
But who says station wagon says crucial livability figures. Let's go: at 4.64 meters long, the 308 SW grows 28 cm compared to the compact, of which 21 go directly into the rear overhang. Compared to the old generation, count 6 cm more in length and 2 cm less in height, the width remaining the same. All this is good for the trunk, since it can display up to 608 liters ... on the thermal versions, Peugeot remaining silent on the livability of the hybrid versions. To go further, we can count on the 40/20/40 rear seat bringing the maximum trunk volume to 1,634 liters (still in thermal version, you will understand). A little comparison? A Golf SW offers 611 liters, a Mégane SW 521 liters, while the unassailable Octavia Combi peaks at 640 liters.
For the rest, the 308 SW takes over all the equipment of the sedan, with the i-Cockpit dear to the brand now having three screens: that of the counters which, as the 208 had already proposed, switches to 3D instrumentation. ; a second 10-inch one bringing together all the necessary information in a completely reworked ergonomic interface; the third takes place under the latter and is made up of six shortcut keys that can be configured as you wish (precise temperature, contact address, favorite radio, etc. etc.).
The equipment is hyper-present, the 308 SW also incorporates the findings of the sedan here: plenty of driving aids (adaptive cruise control, lane keeping, semi-automatic lane change, speed adjustment on bends, recommendation of speed) and comfort equipment (electric AGR front seats, heated and massaged, laminated windows, motorized tailgate, 690 W Focal sound system) will help you have a good time behind the wheel (heated!) of your beautiful Peugeot.
The C-segment station wagons being particularly attractive in the eyes of company fleet managers (Peugeot estimates that 70% of sales will be made to professionals), the 308 SW had to be hypercompetitive in terms of the famous TCO and therefore draws To say the least, calibrated engines: in addition to two PureTechs of 110 and 130 hp, there will be a 130 hp diesel as well as two hybrid engines of 180 and 225 hp. For the latter, the brand announces autonomy of 60 km in electric and CO2 emissions reduced to 25 g per kilometer. The total price remains to be seen, the compact starting at 24,800 € in gasoline or 36,800 € in hybrid. The 308 SW will arrive in your garage early next year, we'll probably get back to you by then!
