Renault already has a date for its next nostalgic trick: the electric Renault 4L is coming

12/09/2022 at 14:56

It was long overdue, but the successor to the  Renault 4  already has a presentation date. Renault will unveil the prototype of the long-awaited reincarnation of its classic utility vehicle on October 17 at the  Paris Motor Show .

Its launch has been confirmed  for more than a year  and the striking  Renault AIR4 Concept  served to open the mouth last winter, but now the moment of truth has arrived: the concept that we will know in a few days anticipates the design of the  Renault 4Ever  that we will see on the streets in 2025.

In the footsteps of the electric Renault 5

Renault CEO Luca de Meo is clear that the diamond brand's past is key to shaping  Renault's future all-electric range The first will arrive the R5 , which we already knew in prototype form and which should hit the streets in 2024, according to the brand's restructuring plans, which plans to make it the replacement for the  Zoé .

A year later, it should be the turn of the  Renault 4Ever  (as Renault baptized it), spiritual heir to the mythical Renault 4, which will become the springboard to access the brand and therefore the most affordable electric car in the world. business in the diamond world. But first we have to know it in prototype form.

The idea of resuscitating the Renault 4 is not new, there was even someone who dared  to design a prototype  from  leaked patents  on the net. The result was posted on an Instagram account called  ablueprintincident  and while the prototype that will be released in October  is different , it does serve to give us an idea of what the new Renault 4 will look like.

Following the scheme of the Renault 5 Concept, it will reinterpret the design of the original model, which celebrated its  60th anniversary in 2021  . Renault's objective is to follow in the footsteps of Fiat with the 500 and the Mini, that is to say to draw inspiration from the R4, but without respecting its forms to the letter.

Indeed, the Renault 4Ever could  reinvent itself as a crossover  to play in the same league as the Renault Captur, that of urban SUVs, but with a zero-emissions approach.

The truth is that before the invention of SUVs, the Renault 4 was able to go anywhere due to its  tall size and low weight , which made it successful in rural environments. We will have to see if its successor is also up to the task of being an electric car.

Regarding the objective of having an adjusted price, Renault is aware that the aid for electric cars  will not last forever  and is looking to expand the range with an electric car that costs  around 20,000 euros  without incentives.

Without a doubt, it is a complicated task, but the diamond firm would seek to reduce costs by taking advantage of the CMF-B platform used by the current Renault Clio and betting on a  battery with a new chemical chemistry  less expensive than lithium-ion. ionic, probably of the LFP (lithium iron phosphate) type. Another option is to copy the Dacia Spring recipe, but with the diamond logo and an added touch of nostalgia.

We will clear up all doubts in just over a month thanks to a conference at Luca de Meo which will present five other innovations from Groupe Renault. All of the French giant's brands will be present at the Paris Motor Show and, in addition to the Renault 4Ever, there will be  premieres from Dacia, Alpine and Mobilize.
