The legendary Buick Wildcat is reincarnated as an electric coupe straddling retro and futuristic

Buick, the century-old luxury brand of General Motors, has just announced that it is ready to go electrified:  its entire range will be 100% electric by 2030  , starting with a first model which will see the light of day in 2024.

This new range of  zero-emission products  will be accompanied by the nickname  “Electra”  , a mythical nomenclature saved for the occasion which in the past identified its most luxurious models. As a preview of what to expect from this new lineup, Buick has unveiled the  Wildcat EV concept .

A glimpse into the future of American luxury

In keeping with  Buick tradition  , Wildcat was the name reserved for  the marque's larger coupes  , which rivaled the  Ford Thunderbird  and Chevrolet Impala.

It is therefore not surprising that the North American firm chose this nomenclature to present a coupé in 2+2 format with a front end that is as tapered as it is elongated. The lower grille rivals the prominence of the headlights, which incorporate  micro-Led technology  in combination with projector lenses that amplify the beam of light.

This part of the car also features  the Buick logo  , which is substantially renewed by placing its three crests on the same level. This is what it will look like, from now on, in all its next versions.

Seen in profile, with the 18-inch turbine-design wheels,  the low height of the car  stands out, which is further reduced as the roof drops rearward. Two huge doors, without visible handles but with cameras that act  as mirrors  , are the only accesses to the cabin.

Interestingly,  the rear is the most compact part  of the prototype, with a huge rear window that doubles as a trunk lid. On either side, in an arrangement reminiscent of distant  Volvo memories , the rear lights mark the separation of this area from the rest of the bodywork.

Inside, the Wildcat EV Concept benefits from  an open-plan environment  , although it uses a raised center tunnel to separate the four available seats. The dashboard, which seems to be inspired by the Buicks of the 1950s, completely dispenses with buttons and offers all vehicle functions through  touch screens .

Functions that, on the other hand, the brand does not rule out integrating in the future into production models, such as the possibility of  modifying the ambient lighting and other  vehicle settings according to the mood of the driver.
