The Maserati GranTurismo is back. After seeing and hearing its fully electric Folgore version, the Modena and Trofeo variants equipped with the V6 Nettuno engine paraded through the Italian streets.
This is the first time that the brand with the trident shows the new generation of the GranTurismo in all its splendor , although we still have to wait a few days to know all its details and the aspect of the interior, still unknown.
The natural evolution of the previous Maserati GranTurismo
It had a long life and remained in production for twelve years, but the last Maserati GranTurismo said goodbye a long time ago, more precisely in 2019. Since then, the Modena brand has failed to fill this gap in its catalog, but it's going to solve it very soon .
After presenting the Maserati MC20 that we recently tested and its convertible version , it's the turn of the next generation of the GranTurismo.
Thus, the Italian manufacturer will return to the large touring segment and, incidentally, will enter the world of zero emissions for the first time with the Folgore version.
The aim is for all of the company's cars to have a zero-emission variant by 2025 . First it will be the turn of the Maserati GranTurismo Folgore , then the Maserati Grecale Folgore will arrive. But that doesn't mean gas-powered Maseratis are dead.
The electric alternative of the GranTurismo will be accompanied by two other variants which will inherit the twin-turbo V6 Nettuno engine from the Maserati MC20. They will be called Modena and Trofeo , the first with a 100% grand touring approach and the second with a more efficient assembly, but no less practical for that.
Both are already circling Modena , Italy, and they're doing so sans the camouflage suit that hid the GranTurismo's exterior design when it rolled through the streets of Rome for the Formula E Grand Prix.
Recently Maserati also filmed the GranTurismo Folgore in California and released a video in which more details of its appearance were appreciated, but now it has shown the first images of its new 2+2-seater coupe completely exposed . . It is only vinyl with the brand logo.
The trident is also accompanied by an anagram to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the birth of the first Maserati in grand touring format : the A6 1500 presented at the Geneva Motor Show in 1947. It was the firm's first car capable of be fast and able to make long trips comfortably at the same time.
The new Maserati GranTurismo copies this philosophy and puts the transalpine brand in the same league as the Porsche 911, the BMW 8 Series or the Bentley Continental GT. Of course, it will be inevitable to miss the sound of the V8 engine of its predecessor, no matter how much Maserati refines the V6 block and "designs" a special tune for the electric Folgore.
