With the Lamborghini Aventador passing away, we already knew that its successor was going to be electrified. And now the brand from Sant'Agata Bolognese has revealed the first details of what will be its new flagship.
Its letter of introduction does not disappoint: it will be a plug-in hybrid supercar with up to four motors, three of them electric, which together will sign the 1,015 CV delivery. And there's more good news: the V12 isn't going to disappear from the equation.
Lamborghini anticipates that they will present this new cash very soon, which opens a new era for the Italian firm. Although without detailing the date. In effect, it is his first hybrid car, although he has his appetizer in the very limited Lamborghini Sián , which resorted to electrification through a kind of mild-hybrid system.
Three electric motors, but the one that commands is the combustion one
At the moment, the one who takes over from the Lamborgini Aventador has no name: its internal name being LB744 . The brand has merely revealed its first technical details, so there is no image of the aesthetics of this bull in an electric key.
With a V12 of more than 800 CV. Despite being a hybrid, the singing voice in this new Lamborghini continues to be carried by the house's 6.5-liter V12 engine . It will be more powerful than any that the Aventador had because it signs the 825 CV : the Ultimae has been the production that has given the most delivery, reaching 780 CV. Its torque is 725 Nm.
It also boasts of being the lightest the brand has ever manufactured: 218 kg. Not in vain, it was necessary to lighten the weight, since the up to three electric motors and the battery, 1.5 m long, 24 cm wide and 30 cm high, will mean many more kilos for the whole. The total figure of the weight of this bull has not yet been revealed.
In addition, in this V12 the compression has been adjusted, the cylinders have been redesigned to increase the intake of air or its combustion has been optimized thanks to two control units, among others.
All-wheel drive, thanks to electric motors. This V12 will be available at the rear, transferring its delivery to the rear axle. But the successor to the Aventador is going to be all-wheel drive, as dictated by the firm's tradition.
And it is that its two main electric motors, axial flow and oil-cooled, are housed in the front axle. Each yields 110 kW (150 hp) and offer all their power to each of the front wheels. And they also have a torque vectoring function, which optimizes driving dynamics and recovers the energy generated under braking.
The third electric motor actually acts as a starter motor and generator, being integrated into the gearbox. Although it also supplies power to the rear wheels in electric mode. And depending on the selected mode, it will either support the V12 engine or recharge the battery. Be that as it may, the total power of this bull will be 1,015 CV , with all its engines working together.
The high-powered lithium-ion battery , made up of bag cells, isn't small, but its total capacity is a meager 3.8 kWh . It can be recharged plugged into a 7 kW household outlet, taking 30 minutes. But the V12 can also recharge it, which takes just six minutes, according to Lamborghini.
The manufacturer boasts that this new bull will be its first offspring that will offer all-wheel drive in electric mode .
New dual clutch transmission . The third most important ingredient in the equation of this LB744 is the new eight-speed gearbox, developed by Lamborghini.
The firm has opted for a double wet clutch change , as it considers that it is the most appropriate to find the balance between fuel efficiency and performance.
It is placed transversely, behind the engine, something that, although it is not unprecedented in Lamborghini, has not been usual: only the Miura and the much later Essenza SCV12 competition car had this configuration. And in addition, work has also been done to make it as compact and light as possible: it is 56 cm long, and 75 cm, contributing 194 kg to the set.
To know its name, design or benefits will still have to wait. For now, only these data have been revealed. It remains to know the benefits of the new Lamborghini reference model, as well as other figures such as its consumption, its electric autonomy or its total weight.
And likewise the design of the body, where the ridged and sharp shapes typical of the models of the Italian brand are expected to be present. And the name, of course. Although it is intuited that LP 1000-4 should be his last name if Lamborghini maintains its tradition.
