There was a way to make the Porsche 911 GT3 RS even sexier: by dressing it up as a Carrera RS

25/08/2022 at 11:24

It has only been on the market for a few days, but the latest Porsche 911 GT3 RS already has a special edition in its catalogue. Said like this it may seem strange, but it is not if we take into account that in 2022 it will be 50 years since the appearance of the Carrera RS 2.7 , the first 911 that was adapted from competition to the street back in 1972.

For this reason, Porsche is creating a commemorative finish exclusively for its customers in the United States and that tries to evoke the original aesthetics of this ancestor. As revealed by the brand, it can be added to a standard 911 GT3 RS as one more package from the Exklusiv Manufaktur, called 'Tribute to Carrera RS Package'.

Full of nods to the past

With the enormous spoiler that presides over its rear, it is difficult to think that the 911 GT3 RS could need the smaller 'underwing' that looks like a finish on the engine access cover. But so it is, and this addition to the standard GT3 RS becomes in this edition another (unexpected) 'retro' detail that recalls the 'duck tail' of the original Carrera RS.

From the latter it also takes the decoration of the bodywork, based on a solid white with contrasting details (rims, rear-view mirrors and the bands with the GT3 RS name that run along the sides) that in the first draft of this edition are presented in Python Green.

Porsche has not revealed whether it will be possible to order this package in other well -known classic Carrera RS combinations (such as blue or red on the same white base), although knowing the exquisite levels of customization offered by the brand, it is to be expected that it will.

In contrast to the inspiration of the past, the carbon fiber elements of the GT3 RS, such as the air vents on the bonnet and front wings, or the aerodynamic appliqués on the bumpers , are superimposed on the 'retro' paint.

For its part, the mechanics of the GT3 RS remain unchanged, although here there was little left to improve : the six-cylinder boxer takes its displacement to four liters to generate 525 horsepower, with a red zone that finds its limit in the 9,000 revolutions.

And despite the historical touch, another quality of the standard model is also present: the mechanism installed in the wing that momentarily reduces aerodynamic drag when using the Formula 1 DRS.

The interior also receives a dose of customization, where green is noticeable in the rear safety cage in addition to some seams in the upholstery and trim. On the other hand, white occupies the main trim of the dashboard, on the passenger side of which the logo of the edition appears in green.

At the moment the unit in the photos is the first created with this special finish, which has been exhibited these days at the Monterey Car Week. The price of this exclusive package is unknown since, as they say from Porsche, it is still under development. But what is known is that, for the time being, it will not arrive in our country.
