Volkswagen adjusts production of its electric models due to weak sales demand

Sales of the ID.4 did not meet initial forecasts, the Emden factory decided to reduce its production rate.

The production of electric vehicles at the VW site in Emden, Germany, will therefore be slowed down. According to Manfred Wulff, head of the works council, this reduction in production is due to a reluctance of customers to adopt electric motorization, which still raises concerns. The minister for economic affairs of the state of Lower Saxony, where Emden is located, also expresses his concerns about the drop in demand for electric vehicles and encourages the introduction of new tax incentives to encourage purchases.
In order to deal with this situation, Volkswagen has taken measures for the employees responsible for the assembly of the electric models, while the production of the thermal models, such as the Passat, is not affected. The usual three-week holiday will be extended by one week and some production will be cut by then. In addition, 300 of the 1,500 temporary jobs will not be renewed in August.
In addition, the implementation of these measures will have an impact on the start of production of the ID.7, with the European version to be manufactured at the Emden plant. As a result, the official ceremony will be postponed. However, Volkswagen has not yet opened reservations for its electric sedan.
