Volkswagen is trying a new approach by claiming that its electric car, the zero-emission Polo, is now available to everyone, with a price tag set at 25,000 euros.

Volkswagen unveiled the ID.3 , which was considered a key model for the German marque. This was due to it being the first vehicle in its brand new ID line . fully electric and that Volkswagen had touted it as the Golf of the 21st century . It was an ambitious statement.

However, more than three years later the ID.3 has been a failure and now Volkswagen is preparing an electric car that will be as affordable as the Polo . We thought it would be an all-electric Golf , but it turns out that Volkswagen is preparing an all-electric Polo instead . This new car will therefore be much more accessible than the ID.3.

Volkswagen recently unveiled a prototype of its future electric car, the Volkswagen ID.2all. The latter will be the little brother of the Volkswagen ID.3, a model that failed to become the electric car for all budgets that Volkswagen wanted to offer. The first step to achieving this is to have an affordable price for the general public. Currently, the basic Volkswagen ID.3 costs 45,010 euros , which does not meet this premise, especially now that Chinese manufacturers are offering electric cars that are just as competent as Europeans, but at a significantly lower price, such as the MG 4 Electric .

That's why Volkswagen has set itself the ambitious goal of offering the future Volkswagen ID.2 for less than 25,000 euros , which is even cheaper than the basic version of the ID.3. However, we will have to wait for the presentation of the production version in 2025 to find out more about this electric car for all budgets.

Range is another key element in convincing consumers to switch to an electric car. The Volkswagen ID.2all should be able to travel more than 450 km on a single charge , and it will only take 20 minutes to recharge the battery from 10% to 80% on a fast charging station. To achieve this, Volkswagen is using a new version of the MEB platform , dubbed MEB Entry , which is specially designed for the smaller electric cars of the Volkswagen Group, including the future little brother of the Cupra Born . The ID.2 will be the first vehicle to use this platform and will also be the first front-wheel-drive model based on the MEB architecture .

The capacity of the battery and the different levels of autonomy offered remain unknown for the moment, but the prototype presented uses a single electric motor with an output of 226 horsepower , which allows it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/ h in less than 7 seconds and reach a top speed of 160 km/h.

However, having an affordable price and good range is not enough to convince consumers to switch to an electric car. The car must also be practical, which is why Volkswagen has solved some of the problems found in its current electric models. For example, the touch buttons on the steering wheel have been replaced by physical buttons, and each window now has its own button unlike the ID.3, ID.4 and ID.5 models which share two buttons for all four windows.

The gear selector has also been redesigned, with a circular selector located on the center console decorated with the Volkswagen logo. The digital instrumentation is also larger than that of the current ID.2.

The Volkswagen ID.2all is slightly smaller than a Polo with a length of 4.05 meters, a width of 1.81 meters and a height of 1.51 meters, but it offers more spacious interior space.

The development of the Volkswagen ID.2 is therefore an important issue for Volkswagen, which is seeking to position itself in the market of affordable and practical electric cars. But the German manufacturer does not intend to stop there, since it is also working on other even smaller electric models.

Indeed, Volkswagen has already confirmed that it is working on an electric model even smaller than the Volkswagen ID.2, which should be marketed from 2025. This model, whose name we do not yet know, should be based on the same platform . MEB Entry than the ID.2 and offer similar autonomy.

These smaller electric models should allow Volkswagen to compete with Chinese manufacturers in the market for affordable electric cars . Indeed, Chinese manufacturers have already launched several electric models at very competitive prices, such as the previously mentioned MG 4 Electric .

But Volkswagen isn't just relying on affordable prices to stand out in the electric car market. The German manufacturer also relies on the quality of its products, offering vehicles with comfortable autonomy and cutting-edge technology.

Thus, the Volkswagen ID.2all is equipped with a modern infotainment system and advanced connectivity, which allow the driver to stay connected at all times. The vehicle is also equipped with many advanced safety features, such as a driver assistance system and an automatic emergency braking system.

In short, the Volkswagen ID.2all represents a big step forward for the German manufacturer, which seeks to offer affordable and practical electric cars for the general public. With its sleek design, comfortable range and numerous safety features, the Volkswagen ID.2all should appeal to many drivers looking for a practical and reliable electric vehicle .
