Alfa Romeo unveils the Tonale

alfa-romeo-tonale-2022

After several years of gestation and concept car, Alfa Romeo unveils the Tonale. Let’s take a closer look…

Like us, you may have discovered the Tonale concept car at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, here it is now in its final form. This is the manufacturer's first compact SUV, which we hope will be able to boost sales somewhat. In the range, it therefore slips under the Stelvio, sporting dimensions almost similar to a Renault Arkana or Peugeot 3008 (length of 4.53m, width of 1.84m and height of 1.60m). On the design side, it takes almost 100% of the lines of the showcar presented 3 years ago. The light signature thickens slightly and of course, the mirrors become more standard but overall, the sleek and dynamic style is still there.

The cabin is more classic but makes you want to settle on board thanks to a design that seems well thought out and ergonomic. There is a 10.25-inch touchscreen placed in the center of the dashboard and a few air conditioning shortcuts at your fingertips. The Tonale plays with materials, angles and curves to appear more plush and qualitative. Only the gear lever denotes a little, for my taste. Obviously, there is a 100% digital instrument cluster facing the driver. But above all! We notice with pleasure the large (and pretty) palettes, typical of the brand. You are immediately immersed in the Italian touch!

Under the hood, the Tonale inaugurates hybridization for Alfa Romeo. It will be possible from launch to opt for a 130 or 160 horsepower petrol engine, both combined with the 7-speed TCT automatic gearbox and an electric motor providing 55 Nm of torque from time to time. Thus equipped, the Tonale will be able to carry out maneuvers without the heat engine being on. Otherwise, for those wanting a little more power, a Q4 Rechargeable Hybrid version will also be offered. It will carry a 1.3 l petrol unit which will drive the front wheels and an electric motor to drive the rear wheels. With a total power of 275 horsepower, it will achieve 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.2 seconds. Thanks to its 15.5 kWh battery, Alfa Romeo promises an all-electric range of 80 km in the city.

Later, a 130 horsepower and 320 Nm diesel engine, this time associated with a 6-speed TCT automatic gearbox, will go on sale.

The prices and the date of marketing have unfortunately not yet been announced. Expected before the summer, however, the Alfa Romeo Tonale should start at over €33,000 and extend to over €50,000 as a top-of-the-range plug-in hybrid.
