Alfa Romeo wants to stay in Formula 1 despite losing its place to Audi, and they already have a plan in place to do so

Alfa Romeo wants to stay in Formula 1 despite losing its place to Audi, and they already have a plan in place to do so

One of the direct consequences of Audi's arrival in Formula 1 is that Alfa Romeo's presence on the grid has been compromised. The VAG Group has acquired Sauber, and at the end of 2023 the partnership between Sauber and Alfa Romeo will end . For two years the Sauber name would return to the grid, until Audi entered with its own team.

However, Alfa Romeo wants to continue competing in Formula 1. In fact, the Italian marque is close to finalizing a deal for next season. Alfa Romeo is on the verge of concluding an agreement with Haas to display its colors, logo and name within the American team from 2024.

Alfa Romeo returned to Formula 1 in 2019 in a bid to reinvigorate a struggling brand. They are so satisfied with the results obtained, especially in terms of brand visibility, more than on the track, that they want to continue in Formula 1 even if Sauber becomes Audi .

According to British media, Alfa Romeo is offering Haas 20 million euros per season to display its colours, name and logo on the American team's car until at least 2025. And given that Haas is not not exactly in financial difficulty, they would be likely to accept this offer.

It should be noted that Alfa Romeo's presence in Formula 1 is not as a manufacturer, but rather as a highly influential sponsor. Alfa Romeo cars of the last few years were still produced at the Sauber factory in Hinwil. However, if an agreement was reached with Haas, the new Alfa Romeos would be manufactured in the United States .

In addition to the Haas-Ferrari tie , another aspect Alfa Romeo would be interested in is the visibility this deal could bring to their brand in the United States, a market they want to tap into again. Initially, the agreement would be valid until 2025, for a duration of two seasons, but it could be extended when the new regulations come into force.

Additionally, there are other potential future projects that Alfa Romeo could consider, including possible participation in the WEC . There is growing talk of a possible entry with a Hypercar or LMDh . As we approach the days leading up to the 24 Hours of Le Mans, which are often marked by announcements, we may soon learn more about Alfa Romeo's plans.

What is evident is that Alfa Romeo is committed to promoting its brand through competition, even if it only does so as a sponsor at the moment.
