BMW X1 2023: engines for all tastes, more space, more technology, more X1

After a somewhat long wait, the time has come to welcome the  BMW X1 2023  , a new generation that improves everything to become a more desirable product, but also more able to satisfy all the needs of its potential customers. And it is that it now offers a propulsion variant for each style, that is, there will be  combustion, plug-in hybrid and electric  .

New design and larger dimensions

The BMW X1 follows the progression of virtually all SUVs, i.e. grows and grows in size with each new generation. Now the change is more than noticeable, and it is that although it is still a compact SUV, its dimensions move away from the smallest of its group to now be placed right in the center.

Along it has gained  4.3 cm in length  to reach  4.4 meters  , in width it grows by 2.3 cm and in height it still grows by 4.4 cm. As if that were not enough, its wheelbase also increases by 2.2 centimeters, so the biggest beneficiary will be the interior space, both in the back seat and in the trunk. Indeed, now its trunk has a capacity of  540 liters  .

On the aesthetic side, it progresses to get closer to the brand's most recent trend, with a slightly larger grille -but not excessive, all the same...-, sharper headlights and well-defined character lines that make it look squarer and sturdier. . Although this is just an appearance, BMW claims to have managed to give it the most aerodynamic body the X1 has worn with a  drag coefficient of just 0.26 cd  .

On the sides it will normally have  17" wheels as  standard, but as you progress between versions and play around with the options you will be able to fit wheels up to 20". You can also carry things like skulls and LED headlights, some variants can mount laser LED headlights and a panoramic roof. As expected, several cosmetic packages will be available, some will focus on a sportier look with the intervention of BMW M design, while others will look for more elegant details.

Minimalist and highly technological interior

Although BMW exteriors tend to become more and more extroverted, inside the X1 2023 we will find cleaner and simpler lines, which with a good dose of technological elements, color contrasts and materials, give a more abundant sense of luxury. .

The first thing that jumps out at you is the arrival of the brand's new  infotainment system  , which already incorporates the famous "curved screen" first seen with the brand's most recent electric models. In this case, the digital instrument panel measures  10.25"  , while the main screen measures  10.7"  . It already has the iDrive 8 operating system compatible with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

You will also be able to control more elements of the car via  voice commands  , because even in this design change many buttons are lost, the functions of which are now integrated into the screen. For example, air conditioning controls.

As always, the equipment is extensive, both standard and optional, where we can see electrically adjustable seats with heating and ventilation, HUD, ambient lighting, high-end audio systems, wireless charger for smartphones, native navigation with real-time traffic information, emergency call, concierge services and much more.

The same happens with the safety elements, where we can find:  autonomous emergency brake with pedestrian detection  , blind spot monitor, adaptive cruise control, lane maintenance, reverse assistant, autonomous parking , among others.

An engine option for all needs

At BMW, they have achieved a high degree of optimization in their production line as they have managed to produce petrol and diesel combustion variants as well as the plug-in and fully electric hybrid. Combustion, the model that interests us is the gasoline one, of which there will be two engines, the first the  1.5 liter  three-cylinder turbo of  136 hp  and the second a 2.0 liter  4-cylinder  turbo capable of reaching  204 hp.  _  Both will be mated to the 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission with front and rear wheel drive options. Both will be backed by a 48V micro-hybrid system.

The plug-in hybrid variants   will use the turbocharged three-cylinder engine as the base, but backed by an upgraded electrical system that will deliver a total of  245hp and 326hp depending on trim  . Thanks to the electric power, they will be able to do the 0-100 km/h in 6.8 seconds and reach 190 km/h as maximum speed. In electric mode, it only reaches 140 km/h and can have a range of between  78 and 89 km per charge  .

The BMW iX1 is the fully electric variant of this model. Its body is exactly the same as that of the conventional model, but with  blue contrasts  on the dashboard, the grille, the sides and around the emblems.

Inside, the story is similar, however, the big difference is the powertrain. In this case, it has two electric motors, one per axle, so it activates the four-wheel drive. In total, this powertrain generates  313 hp  . It can do 0-100 km/h in 5.7 seconds and its range is between  413 and 438 km  per charge.

BMW hasn't revealed the battery capacity of this model, although it will likely do so closer to its launch date. The first units will be sold in Europe during the summer and it should arrive on our continent between the end of 2022 or the beginning of 2023.
