Brad Pitt aims to shoot the best F1 film by racing the Silverstone GP, like Steve McQueen

A year ago, Apple Studios unveiled an ambitious multimillion-dollar plan for a Formula 1 movie , with a high-profile cast including Brad Pitt and seven-time world champion Sir Lewis Hamilton . It has now been revealed that filming will begin at the British driver's home, during the Silverstone Grand Prix on the weekend of July 7.

However, this has caused controversy as the film directed by Joseph Kosinski , which wishes to give fans a glimpse into the life of a " Great Circus " pilot for one season, will be shot on the same track and during qualifying, as well than at other Grands Prix until the end of the year.

The tweet of discord

A few days ago, journalist Will Buxton sparked reactions on Twitter by claiming that Brad Pitt was going to drive his own Formula 1 car on the Silverstone circuit on the same weekend as the British Grand Prix . Buxton had also described the film crew as the "eleventh team".

While some of this information is true, the nuances have sparked memes, as filming on the film is scheduled to begin during the Grand Prix weekend at Silverstone and continue through other races this year. The first tests have already started.

Although all indications suggest that the main character of the film produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and directed by Joseph Kosinski, played by Brad Pitt, will make an appearance with the other drivers and teams on the track, he will drive his F2 car modified to look like a F1 between qualifying sessions.

Additionally, the production team worked with script consultant Lewis Hamilton to ensure the details were as realistic as possible.

Formula 1 boss Stefano Domenicali told a Sports Illustrated panel several months ago that although the filming of a film, which could be called ' Apex ', would not disrupt qualifying sessions, it could be quite intrusive.

To avoid this problem, Domenicali believes "we have to control this", but it could also be an opportunity to show that Formula 1 is an endless activity.

The filming of the film, which has a considerable budget, will use the smallest 6k cameras in the world to give the viewer the feeling of sitting in the cockpit. Footage filmed with Brad Pitt will be combined with actual footage from the current season.

In the film, alongside Damson Idris who will co-star with George Clooney and other actors, Brad Pitt plays a seasoned former Formula 1 driver who comes out of retirement to race with his rookie teammate and eventually becomes his mentor.

Although this story is somewhat reminiscent of the real rivalry between Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg at Mercedes in 2010 , it will be necessary to wait until the end of the year 2024 or 2025 to see the film in theaters.
