Carlos Sainz finds Ferrari complicated: Mattia Binotto has resigned, and his replacement may be a former Charles Leclerc

Carlos Sainz finds Ferrari complicated- Mattia Binotto has resigned, and his replacement may be a former Charles Leclerc

The news that had been speculating for weeks is now real. Mattia Binotto will no longer be the Ferrari team boss from next season. The Italian team has just published a statement confirming that it accepts Binotto's resignation, although in reality it seems that it has been an agreed departure.

Now the period to find out who will be the replacement for the Italian opens, and the rumor mill points to two main candidates. One would be the return of someone who was already a legend with Ferrari, and the other would not be good news for Carlos Sainz, since it would be a former boss of Charles Leclerc who would arrive at his request.

Vasseur is the big favorite to rejoin Leclerc at Ferrari

In its official statement, Ferrari confirms that it has accepted the resignation of Binotto , who will cease to be team boss as of December 31. It is surprising because a week ago, before the barrage of rumors, Ferrari itself denied Binotto's departure, but it has finally happened, and very quickly.

"With the regret that this entails, I have decided to end my collaboration with Ferrari . I am leaving a company that I love, of which I have been a part for 28 years. I am leaving a united and growing team. A strong team, ready, I am sure , to achieve the highest goals, to whom I wish all the best for the future", says Binotto as his last words as a Ferrari fan.

Vasseur Alfa Romeo

Among other things, Binotto was the man who signed Carlos Sainz and who has believed in him even in the Spanish's most difficult moments. The red experience can now be very difficult for Sainz, because the main candidate to replace Binotto has his own name: Frédéric Vasseur .

Vasseur, 54, is a Frenchman who has been leading the Alfa Romeo team since mid-2017. If Ferrari has noticed him, it is, among other things, because he was Charles Leclerc's first boss in Formula 1. In fact, the gossips say that the signing of Vasseur has been the express request of a Leclerc whose end of contract is approaching.

The alternative to Vasseur is a true red legend. And it is that in recent days there has been speculation about a possible return of Ross Brawn to Ferrari , an option that has been further intensified since yesterday the Briton resigned as technical director of Formula 1, although according to him he does it to backing out.

Brawn was at the helm of Ferrari between 1997 and 2006 , accumulating five drivers' and six constructors' world championships. A true red legend. But the favorite seems to be Vasseur.
