Electric GTI: the green future of sports cars!

Towards the end of the GTX badge for sporty electric models

Volkswagen, in making its transition to electrification, does not intend to leave sports cars aside. Thus, the models of the ID family will also have their spicy version. To distinguish them from traditional GTIs, Volkswagen opted for the GTX badge, used for its first electric sports cars like the ID.4 and ID.5.

GTI, an icon preserved in the electric age

The management of Volkswagen had already clarified its intentions: despite the electric shift, the GTIs are not abandoned. The next generation of the Golf will be equipped with an electric motor, thus leading to the electrification of future GTIs. Electric vehicles will allow more environmentally friendly journeys than combustion diesel models.

The reinvented GTI badge, a nod to electrification

The brand seems to have planned to adapt the GTI badge for electric models. A reimagined GTI logo was discovered, with the "I" replaced by a lightning bolt symbolizing electric power. This is a way of retaining the iconic meaning of GTI while linking it to the electric world, although the original name referred to diesel fuel injection.

Electric GTI to come, possibly with the ID.2

It is envisaged that the brand will use the GTI badge for an electric version before the change of the Golf. The ID.2 model, a spicy city car with an all-electric motor, is expected to receive this version around 2026. Electric vehicles will allow journeys without polluting emissions, thanks to their lithium battery and their storage capacity in kWh.

GTX is not yet obsolete

Despite the evolution of the GTI badge, the GTX badge is not over yet. Volkswagen plans to unveil an ID.7 GTX at the start of the school year, thus maintaining its use for sports electric models. Hybrid vehicles, which combine electric motors and gasoline engines, are also popular options for reducing CO2 emissions while enjoying greater range. Drivers will be able to charge their plug-in hybrid vehicles for more environmentally friendly driving and benefit from ecological bonuses for their vehicle purchase.

Toyota Prius and hybridization

The Toyota Prius, pioneer of hybrid vehicles, was one of the first models to popularize hybridization. Thanks to its regenerative braking system and its lithium-ion batteries, the Prius has become emblematic of the efficiency of hybrid vehicles.

Hybrid drive and range extender at Volvo

Volvo, on the other hand, also offers hybrid vehicles with hybrid drive technology. Some models even incorporate a range extender for more flexible driving and improved fuel efficiency. This approach contributes to the reduction of emissions and the gradual adoption of more environmentally friendly solutions.

Towards electric driving with Mercedes

In addition to Volkswagen, Mercedes is also committed to the transition to more sustainable mobility. The brand offers plug-in hybrid models that offer electric traction and emission-free driving over short distances. These hybrid vehicles make it easy to switch from an electric propulsion mode to a combustion mode, thus offering appreciable versatility.
