Electric urban SUV from 21,800 euros

The car voted car of the year in Europe for 2023 is now available for purchase: the Jeep Avenger . This car was presented at the Paris Motor Show at the end of 2022 and finally arrived on the streets of our country.

Unlike some markets where it is only offered in an electric version, in France, it is offered with two engines: a petrol version of 100 horsepower and an electric version of 115 kW (156 horsepower). An all-wheel-drive 4xe version is expected to be available throughout the year, although so far it has only been shown as a concept car.

The Jeep Avenger is offered in four different trim levels , with a starting price of 21,800 euros for the petrol version . If you opt for the electric version , it is available in three trim levels from 36,600 euros.

This compact SUV for the city is 4.06 meters long and has front-wheel drive. The gasoline version is equipped with a 1.2-liter 3-cylinder turbo engine and 100 horsepower, with a six-speed manual transmission. Jeep announces an average fuel consumption of 5.5 liters per 100 km traveled for this version C labeled SUV.

As for the electric version of the Avenger , it is equipped with the same propulsion system as that used by the Stellantis group and present on the Peugeot e208 GT . This includes a 115 kW (156 hp) electric motor combined with a 54 kWh gross (50.8 kWh usable) battery.

Jeep claims that their new model has a range of 400 km in the WLTP cycle, and even up to 550 km in the city. However, given our experience with other electric cars from Stellantis with similar specs, such as the Peugeot e2008, we find it unlikely to achieve this advertised range in real life. In addition, the average consumption announced is 15.4 kWh/100 km, which would give an estimated range of 327 km.

As for fast charging, it can support up to 100 kW of continuous current. Depending on the brand, it is possible to recharge the battery from 20% to 80% in less than 30 minutes. For home charging, the power is limited to 11 kW, and the brand announces a charging time of 5 hours and 30 minutes for a full battery charge at this power.

The Jeep Avenger is offered in four trim levels : Avenger , Longitude , Altitude , and Summit . The entry-level model, which is simply called Avenger and equipped with a petrol engine, is available from 21,800 euros and is characterized by its 16-inch black steel rims.

In terms of equipment, air conditioning, a multimedia system with a 10.1-inch touchscreen compatible with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, cruise control and lane keeping assistance are already included as standard.

The Longitude package offers features such as 16-inch alloy wheels, body-colour door handles, rain sensor and heated door mirrors.

The option pack also includes several features, including dual-zone climate control, navigator, keyless entry and start, traffic sign reader, and wireless mobile charger, all included in the package. Infotainment & Convenience package at a price of 1,936 euros.

Another package available for the same price of 1,936 euros, includes 17-inch wheels, an auto-dimming interior mirror, adaptive cruise control (ACC), rear parking aids, a rear view camera, tinted rear windows and fog lights.

The Altitude version is fitted with standard 17-inch alloy wheels, silver-gray bumper trim, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a power tailgate as well as an alarm system. keyless entry and start.

As a final addition, the Summit version comes standard with 18-inch alloy wheels, full LED headlights and taillights, 360º camera, adaptive cruise control with lane keeping as well as a wireless charger for smartphones.

Alternatives to the Jeep Avenger

The Jeep Avenger and the Peugeot 2008, DS 3 and Opel Mokka share the same platform. Although it is a little shorter than the Peugeot, the Jeep Avenger is also much cheaper, with a difference of almost 2,000 euros in the petrol version and around 1,700 euros in the electric version.

Compared to the petrol Opel Mokka , the Jeep Avenger is also cheaper in a similar proportion, and the electric version of the Avenger is more affordable by over 3,000 euros.

Compared to the Mokka and the e2008, the Avenger stands out for its higher power and its battery offering more useful capacity. On the other hand, prices for the DS 3 are significantly higher, starting at 27,000 euros for the DS 3 Puretech 100 CV and 40,000 euros for the DS 3 E-Tense.
