The third generation of the Range Rover Sport arrives to continue the legacy of market success of the previous two, of which a total of one million units have been sold worldwide. We have been with the new Range Rover Sport 2022 and we tell you about the first impressions.
The first Range Rover Sport hit the market in 2005 and remained until 2013, pioneering SUVs with a more dynamic positioning than conventional off-roaders. The Range Sport perfectly complements the luxurious "big" Range Rover which continues to be a benchmark among those looking for a luxury car with campaigning capabilities.
Its more contained dimensions, a fresher exterior design and the power to keep intact the off-road capabilities intrinsic to Land Rover creations, have made the success of this model total and absolute.
In 2013 the second generation of the Range Rover Sport arrived, a model that has remained on the streets to this day, complemented by other models such as the Evoque or the Velar.
But logically time passes for everyone, technology in the automotive sector advances at a devilish pace and this means that the updates that all models receive during their commercial phase, called 'restyling', must give way to new generations that really allow you to integrate all the advances available on the market today.
When Land Rover talks about the new Range Rover Sport, they refer to it as the most dynamic and capable ever. This means, taken in colloquial language, that its dynamic capabilities on the road and sporty use are better than ever, but at the same time it retains one of its characteristics unchanged: the ability to move over the terrain with virtually no limitations.
The new model was developed alongside the new Range Rover , with which it shares engines and much of the technological equipment, although it should be noted that the large Range continues to seek the most extreme comfort and luxury, while the second has a more dynamic .
The Range Rover Sport is 4.95m long compared to the outgoing model's 4.88m, but despite this increase in size they claim that thanks to the new platform it is 35% stiffer than before.
You have all the information about the new model here , and the prices in this other subsequent article , so today we are going to focus on the first impressions that this car has given us, since we had the opportunity to see the first unit that arrived in Spain.
The first thing that stands out is the exterior design. They've masterfully managed to retain the shape that's marked the appearance of the Range Rover Sport over the years, but they've done so by combining it with much more stylized design cues in keeping with today's times.
The volumes are very marked, with a cabin assembly that seems to float above the rest of the vehicle body. This effect is accentuated by the fact that the roof and pillars are painted black with tinted rear windows.
What has evolved the most are the headlights and the grille, which have been minimized in terms of size. They now form a thin line that runs from end to end, aligning the headlights with a tiny black grille, which has nothing to do with the previous one.
Seen from the front, and especially in a unit with that gray body color in which the glossy black painted parts stand out, they make the horizontal modules such as the second lower grille which allows the engine to be cooled, give the car a lot of packaging .and strength.
That minimalism in the optical groups, which has suited the Range Rover so well, although with a different application to this, can also be found at the rear. There, in a very high position, almost in line with the car's waistline, we find another black line that runs the width of the car.
At the ends, the LED optics are integrated and only come out when the car has the ignition on . These are the finest optics Land Rover has ever made, and it looks like they will define the style of their future models.
The importance of aerodynamics is appreciated at a glance . The Range Sport's drag coefficient has been improved by 15% compared to its predecessor, with a value lowered to 0.29.
This is achieved through elements such as the door handles flush with the bodywork, which only come out to open them. Work has also been done to ensure that the frame of the windscreen and the rear windows, located behind the doors, are better aligned with the rest of the bodywork, promoting aerodynamic efficiency.
After having walked around it several times, I can confirm that the Range Rover Sport of this third generation maintains the values of elegance and robustness that have always characterized it, but at the same time it evolves towards a more avant-garde look. and I think that was just then. Good work from the design team.
As the Range Rover Sport has grown in size, so has the cabin. Now there is more space, especially in the area of the second row of seats. The 7-seater version which was barely accepted in the previous generation disappears.
The trunk has a maximum capacity of 835 litres , but beyond that there are various storage spaces in the cabin, as well as a refrigerated compartment that can hold four 500ml bottles.
From the driver's seat, the feeling is one of absolute traffic control, as you keep going higher than most SUVs it will compete with for a spot in the market.
The seats have been completely redesigned and are said to provide very good driving comfort for long journeys and at the same time sufficient lateral support for sporty driving moments.
The seats have 22 electrically adjustable positions and can also integrate the massage function . But what the seats hide doesn't stop there, alas, inside, it's active road noise cancellation technology.
Following the same principles used in noise-canceling helmets, this system filters out unwanted sounds from the outside and prioritizes tones that enhance the driving experience and refinement, all from a series of high- speakers located inside the front seat head restraints.
The sound system continues to be contracted to Meridian . It should be noted that many of the 29 speakers are discreetly integrated into the door trims. Its sound, with up to 1,430 kW of power, surrounds the cabin and creates personal sound environments for each of the four main occupants.
As if all that weren't enough, the Range Rover Sport now features an advanced cabin air purification system with PM2.5 filtering and TM X nano technology to dramatically reduce unpleasant odors, bacteria and allergens, including the virus that causes SARS-CoV-21.
Otherwise, the watch case has given way to an easy-to-read all-electronic display. It is completed in the central position by a screen that has a curious convex curved shape, 13.1 inches .
Much of the technology incorporated in this car is managed from it, it receives updates remotely, it has an advanced voice control system for the main functions (Hey Land Rover is the command of 'activation), it has Amazon Alexa built-in and in case all that wasn't enough, you can also start and start the car remotely from your smartphone if you wish.
For the rest, and as is logical in cars of this segment and this price level, the quality of the materials, the finishes and the atmosphere that is breathed inside is first class and the luxury is experienced. to the first person.
Prices for the Range Rover Sport range fluctuate between 102,700 euros and 145,500 euros, and it is striking that the entry model to the range is a PHEV instead of the D250. Undoubtedly a commitment to electrification by Land Rover Spain to continue the path started with the outgoing model, of which 34% of units sold this year have been PHEVs.
Time-limited First Edition and Autobiography versions are only available with the P510e engine . The others are also available with S, SE, Dynamic SE and Dynamic HSE trim levels.

The Range Rover Sport can now be ordered from Spanish dealerships. From what the brand managers for our market have told us first hand, they're surprised at how well it's been received.
There are 150 firm requests from people who had only seen it in photos, since until the arrival of this unit, no other had set foot on our territory. Thus, and given that the delivery times they manage today vary between 6 and 8 months , it is to be expected that other orders will arrive in the days and weeks to come.
We will start seeing them on the streets from October, when the first units should be delivered, and we can test it to tell you dynamic impressions a few weeks before.
