Ford is now offering an electric version of its smallest minivan, while maintaining diesel and gasoline engine options

The Ford Tourneo Connect was recently updated and now it's the turn of its utility counterpart, the Ford Transit Courier , which shares the same platform as the passenger version, but has an exclusive design and an electric version available.

Thus, the new Ford E-Transit Courier completes the range of electric commercial vehicles of Ford Pro and is positioned below the E-Transit Custom and the E-Transit . In addition, it will also be offered with diesel and gasoline engines from the summer.

Ford continues its electrification process by expanding its range of zero-emission vehicles. After recently introducing the electric Ford Explorer , the brand is now launching the Ford E-Transit Courier, which shares a platform with the Volkswagen Caddy , although it is manufactured at a different plant located in Romania.

This new electric version will not be available until the end of 2024, but in the meantime Ford is offering a version with diesel and gasoline engines, which will be available from the last quarter of this year.

The design of the new generation Transit Courier is closely tied to the Tourneo Connect as they share the Volkswagen Group's MQB platform , and both are under the direction of Amko Leenarts , Ford's European design director .

However, the Transit Courier features exclusive elements reminiscent of the new Ford Explorer, particularly at the front, with a huge grille that takes up much of the front.

The E-Transit Courier stands out further with a bolder grille pattern, which is connected to the larger, LED-equipped headlights by an LED light strip.

The dashboard, center console and case of the Transit Courier and E-Transit Courier have differences, especially in their design. In the Tourneo Connect , the digital box is attached to the central touch screen by the same frame, which resembles that of the Ford Explorer. However, the E-Transit Courier stands out with a larger 12-inch central touchscreen, as well as digital instrumentation of the same size.

In addition, it incorporates the latest version of Ford's multimedia system, called SYNC 4 , which allows access to connected services, software updates over the air, as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto without using cables.

In the technical part, the Ford Transit Courier will be available with the renowned 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine , offering two power options: 100 hp and 125 hp. The 1.5-litre, 100 HP EcoBlue diesel will also be offered. The standard transmission is manual and six-speed, but the 125hp petrol version can be fitted with an optional seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. According to Ford, plug-in hybrid versions could also be offered if there is sufficient demand.

As for the Ford E-Transit Courier, it will be powered by a 100 kW (136 hp) electric motor producing 290 Nm of torque. It can be charged at 11 kW in AC and 100 kW in DC, which allows it to be recharged from 10% to 80% in less than 35 minutes. However, there is no information yet on its battery capacity or battery life.

Ford showed off the features of its new zero-emission commercial model, including its 2.9m³ cargo capacity and 700kg gross payload. The load space measures 1,803 mm in length and 1,253 mm in width between the wheel arches. The vehicle is equipped with multiple storage compartments in the passenger compartment and a small 44-litre trunk under the bonnet.

By comparison, the petrol and diesel versions of Ford's Transit Courier have a maximum payload of 678 kg, which can be increased to 845 kg with the High Payload option . The diesel versions can also tow up to 1,100 kg and the petrol versions up to 1,000 kg. Buyers can also choose a crew cab alternative with a three-seat rear bench seat and a folding bulkhead. All Ford Transit Courier models are less than 4.4 meters long.
