It's been 25 years since Prodrive launched the two-door Impreza WRC, which inspired the Subaru Impreza 22B. Only 424  of this  homologation special  were built and over time it has become cult, it is the most iconic Impreza WRC and the only two-door.

Prodrive claims to have "reimagined what this car would have been today", and as such, while the styling is left largely intact, the construction and underpinnings of the two-door saloon have been almost completely redesigned.

Prodrive plans to build 25 units of its P25 , each time from an original two-door Impreza Mk1 WRX. And while the design is very similar to the original, the rest has been updated. Thus, the new model retains the four-cylinder boxer, but it is not the original 2.2 liters but   the brand's current  2.5 liters , which can be found in the Subaru BRZ and the Toyota GR86.

Of course, it is an engine extensively modified by Prodrive. Thus, internal components are custom made, including new cylinder liners, pistons, connecting rods and a cylinder head with variable cam timing. The engine is supercharged by a Garrett racing turbo and a high-performance intercooler, as well as an Akrapovic exhaust line   in titanium and stainless steel.

The engine is associated with all-wheel drive and a 6-speed sequential gearbox, with paddles on the steering wheel, capable of changing gear in 80 milliseconds. The transmission includes an active adjustable center differential and two limited-slip differentials, front and rear.

Prodrive announces a power that rises "to  more than 400 hp  " and a torque that reaches 600 Nm.  A WRC-type launch control and a turbo anti-lag system allow the P25 to go from  0 to 100 km / h in less than 3.5 seconds.

Behind Prodrive 8.5x19 rims with Bridgestone Potenza 235/35/19 tyres, AP Racing brakes. These consist of 380mm ventilated discs and six-piston calipers at the front and 350mm ventilated discs and four-piston calipers at the rear.

But the brakes also have no trouble stopping the car, the car is a featherweight. In Prodrive they contained the weight of the P25 in just 1200 kg. To get an idea of ​​what this means, an Alpine A110 weighs only 1,100 kg and a  Hyundai i20 N  weighs 1,250 kg. I mean, it's quite an achievement.

The low weight of the car is mainly due to the use of carbon fiber body panels and composite materials, such as the hood, roof, skirts, mirrors and rear fenders, while the door panels exteriors are carbon fiber.

It also has a lighter lithium-ion battery. As an option, Prodrive also offers thinner and lighter competition bucket seats.

The instrument panel features a full-width high-definition digital instrument cluster that includes a telemetry system. For the moment, Prodrive has not revealed more images.

Twenty-five P25s will be built at Prodrive's headquarters in Banbury, UK, with the first units due to be  delivered to customers later this year  . The P25 will be registered in the UK and will cost £460,000 plus VAT, which at current exchange rates equates to around  €534,895.
