Incredible feat: in four minutes, the electric Rimac Nevera breaks the records of Bugatti and Koenigsegg

Production speed has always been a key selling point for supercar manufacturers , from the McLaren F1 and Pininfarina Battista to Bugatti and Koenigsegg. Each of these builders broke records to prove their outstanding performance.

However, as we all know, records are meant to be broken. And that's exactly what the Rimac Nevera accomplished in remarkable fashion, setting 23 new records simultaneously.

The most remarkable record of all is undeniably that of 0-400-0 km/h, considered the ultimate test of straight-line performance in hyper sports cars .

This test tests acceleration, aerodynamics, top speed and braking ability.

In 2017, the Bugatti Chiron set a time of 41.96 seconds to reach 400 km/h and then come back to a standstill. A month later, the Koenigsegg Agera RS smashed the Chiron's time by achieving 0-400-0 km/h in just 36.44 seconds.

The  Rimac Nevera pulverized this tough exercise in record time of under 30 seconds, literally. He set an exceptional performance of 29.93 seconds , thus surpassing by more than a second the former title holder, the Pininfarina Battista , who is none other than an Italian-dressed Rimac Nevera manufactured by Rimac himself.

List of Rimac Refrigerator Records

On a test track in Germany, the Nevera broke a total of 23 acceleration and braking speed records, all independently verified. Eleven of these recordings were made in miles per hour (mph), while the other twelve were established in kilometers per hour (km/h). This feat is impressive, regardless of the measurement system used.

Take for example the time it takes for it to reach different speeds. The Nevera goes from 0 to 100 km/h in just 1.81 seconds and reaches 200 km/h in 4.42 seconds. To better understand the magnitude of these figures, imagine that a 374 horsepower BMW M240i takes 4.7 seconds to reach 100 km/h. During this lap of time, the Nevera would have already covered more than 60 meters more than the BMW. Moreover, in just 1.82 seconds, the time it takes the Nevera to reach 100 km/h, the car would have already covered just over 28 meters.

"The Nevera can hit 400 km/h and get back to zero in less time than it took the McLaren F1 to accelerate to 350 km/h."

Even more impressive, the Rimac Nevera can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h, brake to a complete stop, and this, in less time than the M240i does to reach the speed of 100 km/h. h. Indeed, the Rimac Nevera broke the 0-100-0 km/h record in just 3.99 seconds. All this is all the more remarkable when you consider that this car weighs 2,150 kg.

To illustrate the performance, Mate Rimac rightly points out that the Nevera "can hit 400 km/h and get back to 0 in less time than the McLaren F1 took to accelerate to 350 km/h".

Despite the impressive performance of these record numbers, which highlights the Nevara's near-superhuman level of performance, there really isn't a surprise. The Rimac Nevera is equipped with four electric motors, one for each wheel, which provide a total of 1,914 hp and 2,360 Nm of torque, powered by a 120 kWh battery.

The brakes, which also use electric motors for braking, feature impressive Brembo carbon-ceramic discs 39 centimeters in diameter, bitten by six-piston calipers.

According to the manufacturer, the estimated range of the vehicle, when not used for breaking records, is 550 km in the WLTP cycle. Theoretically, it is able to recharge its battery at 500 kW, although in practice it rather recharges at almost 350 kW, which corresponds to the current limit of public charging stations.

The Rimac Nevera may have marked the end of an era with the Bugatti Veyron and the Chiron, successful as the ultimate examples of internal combustion engine excellence. These cars were a true celebration of piston engines and mechanical engineering.

However, seeing the accomplishments of Rimac Nevera, it is possible that we are now on the threshold of a new era, unknown and full of possibilities to explore. The days to come could reveal exciting advances, where everything remains to be achieved.
