"Lamborghini bets on electrification to reduce its emissions by 80% by 2030"

Lamborghini a commis un sacrilège avec un SUV. Maintenant ça va te choquer encore plus parce que ça va être électrique

Lamborghini is preparing for a more electric future by launching hybrid models. But the Italian brand does not stop there. By 2028, it plans to launch an all-electric car , followed closely by a new version of the Urus in 2029 . Although this new version retains the Urus name, it will be considered a zero-emission car. This decision makes sense given the commercial success of the Urus, Lamborghini's luxury SUV.

Stephan Winkelmann, CEO of Lamborghini , underlined this strategy during the presentation of the first data of the replacement for the Aventador . The Italian brand aims to reduce its carbon footprint while maintaining its high level of performance, relying on cutting-edge technologies to achieve these ambitious goals.

A fully electric Lamborghini Urus, in six years

Lamborghini's first electric

Lamborghini is an Italian luxury automobile brand, known for its impressive performance sports cars . In 2023, the brand is entering a new era with the electrification of its range.

According to Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann , the brand will introduce its first two fully electric models in 2028 and 2029. This new direction will allow Lamborghini to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 80%.

In addition to the two electric models, Lamborghini will also have a fourth model in its lineup. This represents twice as many cars as ten years ago, when the brand had only two models.

The success of the Urus, Lamborghini's SUV , has largely contributed to this expansion of the range. In 2022, the brand sold 9,233 cars, including 5,367 units of the Urus.

The new Urus will be fully electric, while the brand's first electric car remains unknown. However, it is understood that it will be a super sports car.

The new era of Lamborghini will begin in 2023, with the electrification of all its models. The new flagship, succeeding the Aventador , will be a plug-in hybrid with a V12 paired with up to three electric motors, capable of producing up to 1,015 hp.

In 2024, the hybrid variant of the Lamborghini Urus will be added to the lineup, but it has not yet been clarified whether it will be a PHEV . The Huracán , which will replace the Aventador, will also be a plug-in hybrid.

Despite this electrification, Lamborghini will not be fully electric in 2030. The brand has not yet changed its announced roadmap for the coming years, which will only include hybrids in its range.

However, the " Ferrari amendment ", which is to be included in the ban on the sale of combustion engine cars from 2035, could change this. The amendment aims to offer a moratorium to manufacturers who only produce between 1,000 and 10,000 models annually, to allow them to adapt to the 100% electric future.

Although Lamborghini is already close to these annual sales limits, the company has requested the inclusion of the Ferrari amendment to be able to continue using combustion engines for its sports cars.

In summary, Lamborghini is entering a new era with the electrification of its range. The brand will offer two fully electric cars by 2029, in addition to two other hybrid models . However, the inclusion of the Ferrari amendment could allow Lamborghini to continue using combustion engines for its sports cars.
