Lamborghini turns its V12 engine into music: the most petrolhead playlist on Spotify

Lamborghini turns its V12 engine into music- the most petrolhead playlist on Spotify

Beyond the features, as striking as the Lamborghini 's design is , none of the Sant'Agata Bolognese models would have the same appeal without its sound. No matter what engine they use, the mechanical tune of the blocks is atmospheric V12 and V10, even that of the twin-turbo V8, it is a treat for anyone's ears, as the new Countach demonstrated.

So it's inevitable that we'll be saddened to learn that the naturally aspirated V12 will disappear to make way for an electrified successor that most certainly won't sound quite the same. Luckily, Lamborghini is clear about how special the sound of its twelve-cylinder block is and has set out to immortalize it through music.

Songs that the brain associates with the Lamborghini V12 engine

Many will say that turning the sound of the V12 engine into music is redundant because there is no better symphony than the roar of a V-shaped twelve-cylinder spinning at more than 4,000 rpm. However, Lamborghini has taken it to another level and created a playlist on Spotify with songs based on the sound of its V12 block.

Actually, there are three lists that are included in The Engine Songs collection , one for each engine: V12, V10 and V8. The first of them is the one that pays homage to the V12; It's called Let's Talk V12 and consists of 24 tracks created by music producer Alex Trecarichi in collaboration with Lamborghini sound engineers.

Trecarichi has used a mathematical function to create each of the three lists: the Fourier Transform, an instinctive function by which the brain tends to break sounds into infinite parts.

Through Artificial Intelligence , the music producer has reproduced this natural ability of the brain in his studio to translate the sounds of the V12 into songs. In short: Artificial Intelligence has found the songs that have the same tonalities as a V12.

"This procedure allowed me to find the basic engine frequencies that match the precise three phases of its expressiveness: ignition (at idle), 4,000rpm and full power," explains Alex Trecarichi .

To achieve his goal, Trecarichi has enlisted the help of Mario Mautone , an aerospace engineer who heads the department that fine-tunes the Lamborghini's sound, known as NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness).

In the video that Lamborghini has published to present this collection of music, Mauntone has said: "One of the aspects that catches my attention is the harshness of the sound that distinguishes Lamborghini. It is that raw and metallic echo that is later reflected in the experience psychoacoustics, the chemical and emotional response to the sound wave that our brain transforms into positive emotions and memories.

"That's why I associate the sound of the V12 with that of a violin: the quintessential high note instrument, capable of going in crescendo from discreet sound to intense volume, a capacity quite similar to what the Lamborghini V12 generates" Mauntone adds.

To capture the sound of the V12 engine in music, Trecarichi and Mauntone have chosen the Lamborghini Aventador LP 780-4 Ultimae, the model with which the Aventador says goodbye and the last of the line of atmospheric V12 without electrification.

The result is the integration of the V12's melody with real music , such as the song 'We Can All Dance' by Sam Collins, which has the same key as the V12 at 8,000 rpm, specifically a G sustained at 103.83 Hz. At medium speed it coincides with 'Run Away', by Ben Böhmer, in G and at 98 Hz, while at idle it shares the key with 'Canone Infinito', by Lorenzo Senni, in F sharp and at 92.50 Hz.

Later, Lamborghini will complete The Engine Songs collection with the V10 and V8 playlists. At the moment, the first playlist is made up of 24 songs and allows you to enjoy the V12 in a different way for almost two hours , with titles by other artists, such as Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Bastille or Rich More. The cover of the collection is the work of graphic designer Vasjen Katro.
