If anyone thinks Sergio Pérez can win the Formula 1 World Cup , they could try praying to the Virgin of Fatima. However, after Max Verstappen 's impressive display in Miami , it is evident that he is far above Pérez and almost every other driver on the grid in terms of driving skills.
There were no safety cars, strange strategies or accidents that influenced the result. Verstappen simply displayed incredibly fast running pace. Although there was no serious opposition in close combat, it would have been impossible as Verstappen was clearly superior. He left an indelible mark on Formula 1 history with his performance in Miami.
When Verstappen extended his first stint on hard tyres, something started to feel the change in performance. Despite this, he managed to ride at the same pace, if not a little faster than Pérez, who had stopped for fresh tyres. After Verstappen's stoppage, he easily passed the Mexican and put in an outstanding fast lap.
This performance by Verstappen is significant, not only in terms of points where the gap between the two Red Bulls is only fourteen, but above all in terms of sensations. This race demonstrated that Pérez's speed could only match Verstappen's on a few select circuits.
While Verstappen is the undisputed favorite in current Formula 1, it is also certain that Fernando Alonso will be on the podium. For the fourth time this season, the Asturian driver showed his strength by taking third place, after battling with Carlos Sainz at the start of the race.
On the other hand, the disappointing performance of Lance Stroll contrasts with that of Alonso : the latter finished twelfth and failed to even score points. It's clear now that if anyone thought Stroll could compete with Alonso, they need to lower their expectations. Although the Aston Martin is a good car, Alonso remains incredibly capable at the age of 41.
At the start of the race, Sainz was in the race to reach the podium and he even passed Alonso, but his good performance was interrupted. As he entered the pits, he braked too much and went over the speed limit, earning him a five-second penalty. Although this did not change his final position, he finished fifth.

George Russell also managed to overtake Carlos Sainz with the Mercedes . On the other hand, Sainz had a very full weekend overall in Baku , unlike Charles Leclerc who had a real nightmare after his accident during qualifying. Leclerc finished seventh after a hard fight with the Haas .
Lewis Hamilton made a successful comeback by finishing sixth, gradually improving his position towards the end of the race. He managed to extend his first stint on hard tires and overtake Leclerc in the closing laps. Haas' Kevin Magnussen also had a strong performance, earning a point after battling hard against the Ferrari drivers and securing tenth place.
Alpine had a relatively quiet race, but managed to score points with both riders. Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon finished eighth and ninth respectively, helping to alleviate some of the team's recent struggles. They are now tied in the standings with McLaren , who had a disappointing run in Miami with both cars failing to score points.
