Robert Downey Jr., famous for his role as Iron Man, will host a classic car show on HBO, leaving aside his costume to devote himself to restoring them

Robert Downey Jr., our favorite 'Iron Man', doesn't just save the planet alongside the other Marvel 'Avengers'. In his new adventure, he will embark alongside HBO Max on an important mission: to save his classic vehicles from imminent death and make them more environmentally friendly. They will be subject to a complete renovation , so to speak.

The process will be recorded and featured in a new TV series called 'Downey's Dream Cars', which airs June 22 . In addition to having Robert Downey Jr. as presenter and co-producer, the series will include a slew of pundits (some in favor and some against the complete overhaul) who promise to give us a gripping show.

The engine lives on the screens not only of 'petrolheads'

Downey Jr.'s superb automobile collection, mostly made up of iconic vehicles from the 1960s and 1970s, is full of wheeled gems such as a mint condition 1965 Chevrolet Corvette, a gorgeous Ford Mustang Boss 302, a Ferrari California T and an Acura NSX, among others.

However, his garage also accommodates retrofitted vehicles like a stunning BMW 3.0 CS , as well as newer cars such as an Audi R8, Porsche 911, Audi E-Tron GT Concept, and Fisker Karma, among others.

The "Downey's Dream Cars" project aims to convert at least part of its collection of combustion-engined cars to electric vehicles, in order to turn them into more efficient and environmentally friendly machines in this new era of mobility, explains the producer.

So, in what could be a particularly difficult time for gasoline-loving purists, Downey Jr. and his team of engineers and mechanics will convert a selection of cars from his garage into hybrid and electric vehicles, including a Chevrolet. Corvette Stingray that the actor and producer wants to electrify entirely.

"We are what we drive, and after amassing a formidable collection of classic cars over the years, I was an energy-waster. And a hypocrite, ever since I founded the FootPrint Coalition in 2019 to develop the technologies that mitigate climate change,” said Downey Jr.

“Fortunately, I am a dreamer. The past three years have been a hopeful experience as I have engaged the brightest minds to evaluate, improve and decarbonize these vehicles in a way that demonstrates their limitless potential,” the actor added during the presentation of his project.

Joining Robert Downey Jr. in this mission will be the producers of "Matador Content": Jay Peterson, Todd Lubin and Dave Larzelere, as well as Emily Barclay Ford. Additionally, Kyle Wheeler will serve as executive producer.

As the official trailer for 'Downey's Dream Cars' promises, "no one has ever done what we do here." Whether or not we like the controversial retrofits, we'll be eagerly awaiting the series premiere on June 22 to check it out.
