Rumors of a twin-turbo V8 for the successor to the Lexus LFA resurface, without giving up the purely electric version

Les rumeurs d'un V8 biturbo pour le successeur de la Lexus LFA refont surface, sans renoncer à la version purement électrique

The  Toyota group  has specified that the successor to the  Lexus LFA  will be electric, it will be a model derived from the  Lexus Electrified Sport Concept And there are still three to four years before it hits the market. However, this model could have a version equipped with a  twin-turbo V8 , specifies one in the Japanese press. And it is that not all markets seem to want an electric supercar.

According to a review by Japanese magazine  Mag-X  (via  Carbuzz  ), Lexus could use the 5.0-liter twin-turbo V8 from the LC500 drag racing for this new LFA. There has been speculation in Japan for a long time about a street version of this engine.

In 2014, among the possible engines of the LF-LC concept, which would give birth to the magnificent Lexus LC500, was the 5.0-liter twin-turbo V8 producing around 600 hp. The rumors continued even after the launch of the LC in 2016, equipped with a naturally aspirated 5.0 V8 of 477 hp.

Even when Lexus kicked off their drag racing program with the LC 500 in 2018, no one knew what was under the hood of their car. It was only a year later that the brand officially announced the biturbo V8 in a press release.

This included the goal "to complete the [24 Hours of Nürburgring] race smoothly by adopting a variety of new technologies, including a newly developed twin-turbo V8 engine for use in future road cars as well as sports cars".

We once talked about a  Lexus LC-F  , a radical version of the LC, equipped with this engine derived from the competition. And although Lexus could still launch a hypothetical LC-F (in April, Lexus Racing USA hinted at it on its  Instagram account ), at Mag-X they believe that this car would give way to a new  supercar , this time recovering the V8 . of the competition.

Technically, and more so in a low-volume but high-priced car, it is possible to achieve a platform that can accommodate both a V8 and an electric propulsion system. Maserati, for example, has already announced that the  new MC20  will have an electric version. A strategy that will also follow the  replacement of the Maserari Gran Turismo .

However, the Mag-X theory clashes with  Toyota's leaked  product plan , in which the Lexus LC-F was planned for 2022, on the one hand, and on the other hand, Lexus' desire to make the successor to the LFA an electric one.

We know that Lexus likes to show off in  Monterey  for the  Pebble Beach Concours of Elegance , and that the brand has multiplied special series, such as  Bespoke Carbon , on the LC to bring it to life. So we could see the Lexus LC-F in a few weeks.

As for the  Lexus Electrified Sport Concept , considered the next generation of the LFA, it could also make its debut in the United States at the Pebble Beach Concourse of Elegance.

Since the US was the biggest market for the original LFA (190 of the 500 cars made), you probably want to make a splash.

Whether it's a Lexus LC-F or a Lexus Electrified Sport, with or without a V8, Lexus is likely to reveal something very interesting in the weeks before the Pebble Beach contest.
