Small, economical and affordable ECO SUV: less than 20,000 euros

Small, economical and affordable ECO SUV: less than 20,000 euros

Due to the growing disillusionment with public transport, the increase in the size of new cars which seems to reduce the size of parking spaces and the gradual implementation of low emission zones, choosing a new affordable car for city trips is increasingly difficult.

That is why city cars are expected to become more and more popular, as they are practical, affordable and perfectly meet the current situation. The Suzuki Ignis is undoubtedly the car that best meets these criteria.

01

The Suzuki Ignis represents the most compact model in Suzuki 's current lineup . Although it is only 3.70 meters long, it offers enough space to comfortably accommodate four passengers.

With its charming small SUV appearance and modern equipment, it offers a pleasant driving experience, although the steering can be a little harsh when manoeuvring. In addition, it is relatively quiet for its category and has a certain dynamism.

The interior of the car is welcoming for passengers, with a rear seat that can be adjusted in length to optimize the space of the cabin or the trunk. However, the trunk itself only offers a capacity of 260 liters (204 with all-wheel drive).

ECO label, low consumption and complete equipment

The vehicle is equipped with a 4-cylinder engine and a micro-hybrid system that reduces consumption at low revs, thus allowing it to obtain the ECO environmental label. It generates 83 horsepower , weighs just over 900 kg and consumes an average of just 5 liters of fuel per 100 km (5.4 litres/100 km for the 4x4 and automatic versions).

The base model comes with a manual transmission, but a CVT automatic transmission is also available as an option. In addition, there is a version with all-wheel drive for increased safety on wet roads or in winter.

Interior of the Suzuki Ignis Hybrid

The Ignis range starts at 17,805 euros with the GLE finish and reaches a peak of 21,091 euros for the 1.2 wheel drive version and the GLX finish . Even the base model is equipped with an air conditioning system, DAB radio, a 7-inch touchscreen compatible with Apple Car Play, Android Auto and Mirrorlink, as well as a reversing camera and Bluetooth connection for mobile phone.

The front windows are electric, the exterior mirrors are electrically adjustable and there are ISOFIX anchorages for two child seats, as well as features such as lane departure warning and driver fatigue alert.

The options are limited to metallic paint (340 euros) and two-tone paint (550 euros). The GLX finish, from 18,890 euros, adds automatic climate control, electric rear windows and a navigation system. This version is the most complete of all. To have the automatic transmission, which is only available with the GLX finish and front-wheel drive, you have to pay an extra 1,890 euros .

There are several alternatives to the Suzuki Ignis , of which the Fiat 500 is a common option (from 13,787 euros). However, it has very small rear seats and a very upright driving position which does not suit all drivers. On the other hand, the Fiat Panda (from 12,229 euros) is an interesting alternative, with a 70 CV engine and the ECO label, although its finishes and presentation are simpler than those of the Suzuki .
