Tesla is selling so much it's going to set up the biggest electric car factory in the world, and no, it won't be in Europe

Less than a year has passed since  Tesla  opened its new gigafactory in Germany, near  Berlin  , but the American company is already planning to build another factory to shape its electric vehicles.

The location chosen for these facilities is  Mexico  . There was no need to wait for Elon Musk to announce it throughout Tesla Investor Day as  several members of the Mexican government  have already echoed the news,  including President  Andrés Manuel López. Obrador.

Close to Texas, USA

Last year, Tesla sold 1.31 million electric cars. This means that it has increased its sales  worldwide  by 40% and that more sales require increased production. Thus, in 2022, the gigafactory in Berlin was inaugurated, which joined the American factories in Austin and Freemont, as well as the one located in Shanghai, China.

According to the President of Mexico himself, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, Tesla will make an investment of  around $10,000 million  in the country to build its new gigafactory, although this figure is expected to be confirmed throughout the Investor Day. .

This new plant will be located in the city of Santa Catarina, in the state of  Nuevo León  . This region is located in the northeast of Mexico and is very close to Texas, United States.

It should be remembered that Tesla has its headquarters there, in Texas, and also manufactures a good part of its vehicles in this factory. Only  380 km  separate the two Tesla factories, a distance that facilitates the export of vehicles from Mexico to the United States and Canada.

The main disadvantage of this location is the  scarcity of water  . In principle, the Mexican government turned to other places due to the lack of water in this area, betting on reserving it for domestic use rather than industrial use.

Elon Musk could also clarify this issue during Investor Day, but López Obrador has already announced that Tesla will commit to using  recycled water  throughout the manufacturing process, even for vehicle paint.

It remains to be seen how this recycled water is obtained, as well as the rest of the details of this new plant, such as the  number of employees  it will be able to have and what models will come out of it. According to Martha Delgado  , undersecretary for multilateral affairs and human rights in the Mexican government, it will be the largest electric car factory in the world.
