Tesla recently reintroduced free Superchargers, but there's a condition to the offer

Free charging was once offered to Tesla Model S and Model X users through the brand's Supercharger network . However, this option has been phased out over time. Later, some Superchargers were opened to cars of other brands upon payment.

However, Tesla recently re-enabled free Supercharger charging for Tesla Model S and Model X owners . This offer is valid for three years, but is also time-limited.

If you order and receive your Model S or Model X between May 5 and June 30, 2023, you will be eligible for free use of SuperChargers for three years. The good news is that the brand's stocks are well filled and that the configurator of the two models indicates a possible delivery in May or June.

However, there is a risk if you opt for delivery in June, as the manufacturer does not guarantee delivery before June 30, 2023. This promotional offer does not apply to cars intended for commercial use, such as taxis , VTC or cars for shared trips, nor does it apply to other Tesla models that do not meet these conditions.

Free charging as part of Tesla's offer

The Tesla Supercharger charging network is currently made up of more than 400 charging stations , which are distributed in almost 50 stations located throughout Spain. In Europe, there are around 10,000 Superchargers at 900 stations, and worldwide there are more than 35,000 at 3,500 stations.

Despite recent features added to its cars, such as the Summon, and delays in improving its self-driving systems like Full Self Driving (FSD), Tesla's success is built on two solid pillars: long range of its cars, obtained thanks to the low consumption of its models, and the network of Superchargers.

At a time when the charging infrastructure was still underdeveloped, these offers promised electric car drivers the ability to travel by car while having access to relatively fast charging points to continue their journey.

Today, with Tesla's presence in the electric car market at more affordable prices, this charging offer is becoming a compelling selling point for customers who are torn between buying a high-end Tesla model and a competitor model mainly supported by the Ionity network.

More volume, even at the expense of margin

Although Tesla delivered a record number of cars in the first quarter of 2023 (422,875 units), its net profit fell more than 20% from a year ago. It is in this context that the company decided to bet on volume, unlike most competing brands that favor higher margins and lower deliveries.

To focus on larger models and markets, Tesla canceled production of the right-hand drive Model S and Model X, which represent the models with the least volume compared to the Model Y and Model 3.

Indeed, left-hand drive markets do not represent large sales volumes for these models, with the exception of the UK. Elon Musk , CEO of the company, explained that this strategy was the best option in this context. This does, however, involve savings to focus on the most profitable models and markets.
