The BYD Han is a Chinese high-end electric sedan, inspired by European models

The BYD Han is a Chinese high-end electric sedan, inspired by European models

According to them, the first impression is crucial and to be clear on their position, BYD has chosen to arrive in France with three fully electric vehicles. Although all of them are electric, they belong to distinct categories.

The BYD Atto 3 is a mainstream compact SUV we've tested before, while the Tang and Han take a more luxurious approach. The Tang is an imposing SUV, while the Han is a sedan that measures almost 5 meters in length, illustrating BYD's ambition to reach heights.

World of Han 7

BYD realizes the importance of SUVs in today's market and has responded to this demand with the Atto 3 and the Tang . However, they also recognize that large sedans remain a symbol of power. That's why Mercedes-Benz EQS and BMW i7 are examples of their advanced technology.

For BYD, their Han model is a showcase of their technological expertise and a demonstration of their potential. They're not just looking to offer affordable electric cars like the Dolphin , which will launch this summer in Europe.

In summary, BYD wants to be taken seriously. Looking at the design, interior and specs of the Han model, it's impossible not to. Measuring nearly 5 meters long and 1.9 meters wide, it achieves an aerodynamic drag coefficient of 0.23, close to that of the Mercedes EQS.

Inside, the level of technology of the BYD Atto 3 is comparable to that of the Atto 3, with full digitalization, but the appearance is more sober. We had the opportunity to climb aboard during the presentation, and noticed that the materials used, such as the genuine Nappa leather used for the upholstery, were of high quality. Adjustment knobs, including those for the rear seats, were nice to the touch.

The vehicle is fully equipped, with many screens such as a 7-inch central screen for rear passengers, as well as a panoramic roof, heated and ventilated seats with memory, Dynoaudio sound system, active suspension, brakes Brembo and an air purification system. The habitability is also remarkable, although the loading capacity of the trunk is only 410 liters.

Regarding its technical configuration, the vehicle has two electric motors, each for one axle, which together generate a power of 517 hp and a maximum torque of 700 Nm. This power allows acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in only 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 180 km/h.

The battery is a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery with a capacity of 85.4 kWh, offering a combined WLTP range of 521 km. However, the battery charging speed is limited to a maximum of 120 kW DC, which is lower than that of European or Korean car batteries.

World 4

The BYD Han as well as the Atto 3 and the Tang went on sale recently, with a starting price of 69,990 euros in France. A special series, the Esmerald Edition , is also offered with additional equipment and an exclusive exterior color for 74,000 euros. Just like other BYD-branded models, the Han comes with a six-year warranty.

The current main competitor of the BYD Han is the Mercedes-Benz EQE , available from 77,576 euros for its basic version, the EQE 300 with 245 hp, rear-wheel drive and a range of 633 km. The superior Mercedes EQE is also offered at 78,529 euros with 292 hp, rear-wheel drive and the same autonomy.

When it comes to power, performance, range and all-wheel drive, the BYD Han's equivalent competitor is the Mercedes-AMG EQE 43 4MATIC , which offers 476 HP and a range of 532 km. However, its price is higher, reaching 108,888 euros.
