The Chevrolet Camaro, which is also leaving us, will no longer be produced and there is no indication that it will be replaced.

La Chevrolet Camaro, qui nous quitte également, ne sera plus produite et il n'y a pas d'indication qu'elle sera remplacée.

It's time to say goodbye to another automotive icon as production of the Chevrolet Camaro will end in less than a year. Unfortunately, at the moment there is no confirmed successor for this iconic model. Chevrolet recently announced that the sixth generation of the Camaro will be its last and that production will end in January 2024.

The current and future trend towards car electrification leaves little room for muscle cars like the Dodge Charger and Challenger . As expected, these models have been off the market for a year, at least in their traditional form, and are offered only as special editions.

Chronicle of an expected death

Chevrolet Camaro 2019

Three years ago it was confirmed that the sixth generation of the Chevrolet Camaro would not have a successor until 2026, raising doubts about the future of this iconic muscle car. After nine years on the market, production of the Camaro will end next year, with the last units assembled in Lansing Grand River, Michigan , ending a saga that began in 1966 and saw a seven-year hiatus. years between 2002 and 2009.

Whether the Camaro will be replaced by a new model remains up in the air, but the brand said that's not the end of the Camaro story. Scott Bell , vice president of Global Chevrolet , pointed out that the Camaro will continue to be present in competition, but for the time being it is certain that it will no longer be produced as a production model.

Chevrolet Camaro 2019

With Stellantis -owned Dodge already exploring electric muscle cars and ending production of gas-powered Chargers and Challengers , there are questions about whether Chevrolet will follow that path with the Camaro.

In reality, sales of the latest generation of this iconic American model have been disappointing, compounded by supply issues due to the pandemic which have led to a drop in production. However, it had already lost popularity in the market before 2020, dropping from 86,297 units in 2014 to just 48,265 units in 2019.

In North America, the Camaro was discontinued in Europe in September 2019, as was the Corvette , due to failure to meet Old Continent emissions standards . Although the Corvette returned to Europe in its eighth generation, with no retouching or new deliveries in sight, the Camaro did not follow suit.

However, it's possible the Camaro will return in electrified form in the future. After all, the Chevrolet Corvette has already launched a hybrid version, the Corvette E-Ray .

The first-generation Camaro will inspire Farewell Editions

The latest editions of the Chevrolet Camaro will be offered as Collector's Editions . Before the summer, the details of these special farewell editions will be revealed, when orders are opened. The Camaro RS , SS and ZL1 will benefit from a differential package to embody this Collector's Edition.

Chevrolet announced that these versions will pay homage to the first generation of the Camaro, which appeared in the late 60s, but did not give more information at this time. The number of available copies of these versions, which will mark the end of this model with almost 60 years of history, has not been specified.
