The electric Jeep Recon and Jeep Wagoneer S are the yin and yang of the brand: pure and powerful off-road luxury SUV

Jeep  plans to electrify its entire lineup by 2025 and predicts that by 2030, 50% of its sales in the United States and 100% in Europe will be 100% electric cars. The brand showcased its future electrification plans at an event on Thursday, which also announced four new all-electric models.

“The 4xe is the new 4x4,” said Christian Meunier, CEO of Jeep. Following the launch of the Grand Cherokee 4xe and  Wrangler 4xe , the brand will add electric powertrains to its entire vehicle lineup.

At the event, Jeep advanced images of three of these new electric SUVs. These are the  Jeep Recon  ,  Jeep Wagoneer S  and  Jeep Avenger . Jeep gave no clues or images about the fourth electric model.

The Jeep Avenger is a compact model that shares a platform with the Peugeot 2008,  DS 3 Crossback  and  Opel Mokka . It is an exclusive model for Europe. Instead, Wagoneer S and Recon have a global vocation.

Jeep Recon, the electric Wrangler

The  Jeep Recon  has a certain  Jeep Wrangler feel to it . Also, it is similar in size and proportion to the Wrangler. But it is something assumed by the brand. Remember, instead of putting a bigger battery in the current Jeep Wrangler 4xe and changing its look, Jeep designed a new car from the ground up using the STLA Large Group platform.

The Recon inherits the Wrangler's big tires,  long-travel suspension and approach, departure and breakover angles  , as well as the timeless Wrangler's signature boxy silhouette. To add to the bond, this SUV has a power sunroof and removable Wrangler-style doors with exposed hinges.

On the design side, the Recon differs from the current Wrangler by the light signature of its  square headlights , rather than circular, and by the illuminated outline of the timeless seven-slat grille.

By not having a front engine, the designers were able to leave space under the hood to create a trunk with the capacity to store objects and luggage. The front also features bright blue tow hooks - just like those on current 4xe models.

For its part, the state-of-the-art Uconnect infotainment system in the dash offers step-by-step travel guides for the most notable off-road routes, they assure Jeep.

To reassure Wrangler fans, Jeep assures that the Wrangler is and will remain the brand's alpha off-roader. The Jeep Recon is not intended to replace its most emblematic model .

Jeep Wagoneer S, luxury and power

The  Jeep Wagoneer S  will be at the other end of the range, that of luxury and performance. Called Wagoneer S, this new SUV will have four-wheel drive and a management system based on the terrain and the selected driving mode. It has a much sleeker design than anything Jeep has ever produced.

Jeep announced some pretty strong numbers for this model. We are talking about a  power of 600 hp , which will allow it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 4 seconds. Jeep is also aiming for a  range of around 650 km .

Given the ywr advantages of the advertised autonomy, it should have a battery with a capacity of around 100 kWh. We are far from the 50 kWh currently used by the electrical companies of the Stellantis group.

The Jeep Recon and Wagoneer S will first arrive  on the American market in 2023 and then cross the Atlantic and will be present in the European Jeep range.
