The Electric Revolution: Seven Automakers Unite to Challenge Tesla with a Massive Charging Network

Coentreprise-recharge-Amerique-du-nord

Seven giants of the automotive industry have decided to create an exceptionally large joint venture with the aim of developing an electric charging network in North America, thus rivaling Tesla's Superchargers.

The main players in this joint venture

The manufacturers involved in this unprecedented collaboration are BMW, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes and Stellantis. With their different brands, they total more than 20 car brands. Together, they aim to simplify and accelerate access to charging electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles in North America.

A massive deployment of ultra-fast charging stations

The objective of this alliance is to set up no less than 30,000 ultra-fast charging stations, judiciously distributed in urban areas and along motorways, in order to guarantee a strategic network of the territory to meet the growing needs of owners of electric and hybrid cars.

Additional services when charging

Charging stations will not simply supply electricity to vehicle batteries. They will also offer various services to customers during charging, such as toilets, catering options and nearby shops. In addition, the manufacturers have committed to supplying this network with electricity from renewable sources, underlining their commitment to electric mobility and the reduction of pollutants.

Flexibility of use and progressive commissioning

To maximize the use of these fast charging stations, they will be compatible with CCS and NACS chargers. Commissioning is scheduled for the summer of 2024, with a gradual deployment spread over the following months to cover a large geographical area.

A network of terminals accessible to the public

This initiative aims to make electric vehicle charging more convenient and accessible to everyone. The charging stations will be installed in strategic locations, accessible to the public, thus offering an easily accessible charging service for all electric car drivers.

A right to plug for users of electric vehicles

With this network of electric charging stations, owners of electric vehicles will have a right to plug, allowing them to charge their cars with ease and convenience, without worrying about the availability of charging points.

Thanks to this cooperation, owners of electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles will benefit from a dense and efficient network of charging infrastructures, with public charging stations and charging points installed in strategic locations. Charging for electric vehicles will be facilitated, whether it is accelerated electric charging stations or fast charging, offering a practical solution for daily trips and long-distance journeys. The high capacity of the charging stations (measured in kVA) will allow users to quickly charge their electric cars, making travel more convenient and greener.
