The new Aston Martin DB12 combines elegance and sportiness with its 680 hp twin-turbo V8

The Aston Martin DB12 is presented as the world's first supertourer in the press kit for the new model recently unveiled by the British brand. This superb 680 horsepower sports car can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.6 seconds and fly low to the ground with the elegance and sportiness typical of Gaydon's creations, reaching a top speed of 325 km /h. However, there is much more to discover.

The name " Superturismo " was preferred by Aston Martin, because Gran Turismo was not enough to describe this new car. Indeed, it is considered a new category because of the driving experience it offers, its advanced technology and its exceptional level of luxury.

Under the imposing hood of this car is a twin-turbo V8 engine that generates 680 horsepower and 800 Nm of torque. This new model features a suspension system equipped with advanced intelligent dampers, playing a vital role in control and interaction with the driver. In addition, it is enhanced by an electronic power steering system (EPAS) known for its precision and responsiveness, as well as an electronic rear differential (E-Diff) which improves the vehicle's agility.

Advanced electronics in the DB12

The car offers five different driving modes , while the ESP (Electronic Stability Program) offers four preset modes (Wet, On, Circuit and Off), allowing it to adapt to various driving situations and conditions. This ensures that you can take full advantage of this car's power and torque, which are 34% higher than those offered by the older DB11 model. This increase was achieved through extensive engine modifications, including the use of larger turbochargers. The cooling system has also been completely revised for this version.

The sequential automatic gearbox now has 8 gears and has been recalibrated to deliver quicker acceleration from a standstill, optimizing each gear for maximum performance.

The DB12's aluminum frame features a 7% increase in torsional stiffness over the DB11 . This improvement has been achieved through modifications to various structural components, including the transverse engine reinforcement, the front and rear underbody protection panels, the front cross member and the rear apron.

This improvement in torsional stiffness and lateral stability, especially between the front and rear towers, strengthens the shock absorber and rear axle mounting points, making them stronger and more stable.

The car is equipped with a new generation of intelligent dampers which increase the bandwidth of the force distribution impressively, with an increase of 500% .

The new DB12 model comes standard with cast iron brake discs measuring 400mm at the front axle and 360mm at the rear axle. However, as an option, it is possible to opt for carbon fiber reinforced ceramic brakes (CCB).

These improvements increase braking performance while reducing the loss of braking power at temperatures above 800°C. In addition, they allow a reduction of the unsprung mass of 27 kg compared to the standard braking system.

The DB12 comes standard with 21-inch forged alloy wheels (9.5 J front and 10.5 J rear). There are three different models of these wheels which are 8 kg lighter than the previous 20 inch versions.

If we compare the external dimensions of the car with those of the DB11, we notice an increase of 6 mm in front track width and 22 mm in rear track width.

For the first time, Aston Martin entrusted the surround sound system to Bowers & Wilkins inside their vehicle.

Among the many quality and sophistication details, it is important to highlight the use of aromatic Bridge of Weir leather, which is hand-stitched and used to dress the interior.

In terms of technology, the vehicle offers the possibility of using the Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™* applications wirelessly. These features are handled by a new integrated multi-screen system that includes high-resolution 10.25-inch (1970 x 720) displays with a Pure.Black finish. This system also offers a capacitive touch control offering an ultra-fast response (30 ms reaction time).

Although screens are increasingly present, Aston Martin's DB12 retains buttons for basic mechanical functions such as selecting gears, driving mode, heating and ventilation.

On sale at the end of the year

The market launch of the new Aston Martin DB12 is scheduled for the third quarter of 2023, but the price is not yet known.
