The new electric Peugeot 2008 is improved and available in a mild hybrid version

The new electric Peugeot 2008 is improved and available in a mild hybrid version

After more than three years on the market, the second generation of Peugeot's B-SUV benefits from its first update, which includes an electric version: the Peugeot e-2008 . This update introduces slight aesthetic tweaks and more advanced technology for this SUV manufactured at the Vigo factory in Spain, which is also the best-selling model.

The main mechanical innovation of this update is the e-2008 , which receives a new 156 CV electric motor , already present in the recently launched Peugeot e-308 and in the e-208 GT , as well as a battery more important for better autonomy. The thermal versions are maintained, although the most powerful petrol version is deleted, leaving the range limited to Pure Tech models of 100 and 130 hp.

Also, the SUV update will feature more electrification with the addition of a mild-hybrid variant within its family, although this won't be available until early next year.

The new Peugeot 2008 will be launched on the market this summer and will be available for purchase online as well as at dealerships. The already known Active, Allure and GT finishes will be retained in the range.

How is the new Peugeot 2008 evolving?

The Peugeot 2008 update does not affect its dimensions, meaning it retains its urban SUV size of 4.3 meters long, 1.77 meters wide and 1.53 meters high . Although the car gets some minor aesthetic changes, its overall footprint doesn't change much, which improves its packaging.

The main changes are in the light signature of the brand, which is now visible on the new Peugeot 2008 and the e-2008 . The daytime running lights are now represented by three vertical light claws at the front, while the rear lights are configured in three overlapping horizontal double stripes in a new design.

The front of the Peugeot 2008 has been widened, with more spacious openings that surround the lower air intake, where the three claw-shaped LED daytime running lights are located. In addition, the Peugeot emblem is now predominant on the grille.

Two new body colors were added to the catalog: Selenium Gray and Okenite White , in addition to the four existing colors, namely Artense Grey , Perla Nera Black , Elixir Red and Vertigo Blue . The wheels also feature new optional designs, available in 16, 17 or 18 inches.

More than 400 km of autonomy and 156 HP for the Peugeot e-2008

Peugeot e-2008 2023

The Peugeot e-2008 differs from other previous models by modifying its mechanics. The French company has already started integrating a new, more powerful electric motor, abandoning the standard 100 kW (136 CV) configuration that was used before.

The new zero-emission powertrain combines a 115 kW (156 HP) motor with a slightly larger battery, replacing the previous 50 kWh capacity with a net capacity of 54 kWh. This leads to an increase in range between charges from 345 km to 406 km.

The Peugeot e-2008 is equipped as standard with a 7.4 kW charger, but it can optionally be replaced by an 11 kW three-phase charger. The battery can be recharged up to 100 kW and takes about the same time as the previous one to recharge: it goes from 20 to 80% in 30 minutes in ultra-fast outlets, 4 hours and 40 minutes in a Wall Box of 7.4 kW, and 11 hours and 10 minutes in a conventional household socket of 3.2 kW.

Currently, Peugeot has not communicated the benefits of the renewed version of the e-2008 , but it should be noted that the previous model had a (limited) maximum speed of 150 km/h and could go from 0 to 100 km /h in 8.1 seconds.

On the other hand, the new Peugeot 2008 includes a micro-hybrid version that combines a 136 hp Pure Tech petrol engine with a small alternator-starter motor integrated into the six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, as well as a 48V system.

Peugeot claims that this engine will be 15% more fuel efficient thanks to its electric system, and will be able to run up to 50% in all-electric mode during urban journeys.

In addition, the new Peugeot 2008 is equipped with the advanced Grip Control traction system , which offers specific driving modes for terrain other than asphalt, such as sand, mud and snow.

With a larger, more connected and secure multimedia screen

The new Peugeot 2008 aims to modernize its technological aspect, mainly with regard to the multimedia screen. The biggest change is that in all three of its trim levels a 10-inch screen is now standard, whereas previously the base screen was just 7-inches. In addition, the i-Cockpit system is included at no extra cost from the second Allure finish, and in the top-of-the-range GT finish it is also available with 3D effect.

The French brand also introduced a new infotainment system, the Peugeot i-Connect , which offers wireless connectivity for mobile devices. The most complete version of this system, the i-Connect Advanced , is equipped with the GT finish at no additional cost and includes features such as integrated navigation with TomTom maps or remote updates (OTA).

The series of USB-C and USB-A connectors have been extended to include both rows of seats, while the wireless charging system has been improved, only available as standard on the GT model. Additionally, there are new front and rear cameras with improved resolution, as well as a 360º HD front camera.

As far as assistance technology is concerned, the new Peugeot 2008 offers a wide range of systems such as adaptive cruise control with Stop & Go function, automatic emergency braking with cyclist and pedestrian detector (day and night), traffic light recognition, traffic management including speeding, stopping and overtaking prohibited, involuntary lane departure warning and blind spot detector.

The model range will consist of the three well-known Active , Allure and GT trim levels , and pricing will be announced shortly ahead of the official launch. With more advanced technology, the price of the new Peugeot 2008 will be slightly higher than that of its predecessor, which starts from 24,989 euros for the basic thermal version and 37,720 euros for the e-2008 version .
