The new Mercedes E-Class is now more modern with TikTok, a selfie camera and three screens

After introducing the E-Class name 30 years ago with the Mercedes-Benz W124 , the famed marque recently unveiled the sixth generation of its iconic sedan.

Dubbed the W214 internally, this new model has almost identical proportions to its predecessor, although slightly larger. Its design is directly inspired by the brand's flagship car, the S-Class , while its interior is reminiscent of Mercedes' EQ all-electric models .

It still has diesel and gasoline engines, but still electrified

Last year Mercedes focused on expanding its range of all-electric cars, but despite this the brand hasn't forgotten about its classic cars, like the Mercedes E-Class .

Last spring, the Mercedes-AMG E 63 S 4MATIC+ Final Edition announced the end of production of the E-Class, launched in 2016. The sixth generation of this German sedan will be available in dealerships this summer and will feature design cues innovative features such as the grille illumination and star-shaped rear lights, while recalling the design of the C-Class and S-Class.

It looks like the E-Class lineup won't be as extensive as before, as there won't be Coupé, Cabrio and Estate versions for this generation. In terms of dimensions, the new model is 4.95 meters long, which is almost identical to the length of the previous model, and its trunk capacity is the same as that of previous micro hybrid versions.

The changes are mainly inside, where there are fewer buttons and more screens, similar to what the Mercedes EQ offers , including the EQE which shares a segment with the E-Class . In addition, ambient lighting is improved not only on the exterior, but also on the interior.

It also includes the latest version of the Mercedes MBUX infotainment system , which offers new features such as 5G connectivity as well as a third-party app store. You can download popular apps like the social network TikTok or games like Angry Birds. In addition, it is equipped with a camera for making video calls via Zoom or taking selfies.

As for the engines, all are electrified four-cylinder engines and are paired with an automatic transmission. Initially, there are two ECO-labeled options, both micro-hybrids: the 204 hp E 200 petrol and the 197 hp E 220 d diesel , available with rear-wheel drive or 4MATIC all-wheel drive.

Two petrol plug-in hybrids are also available: the E 300 e with an output of 313 PS and the E 400 e with an output of 381 PS. The first is equipped with rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, while the second can only be equipped with all-wheel drive. Both models have a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 25.4 kWh, which provides up to 118 km of electric range for the rear-wheel-drive E 300 e and up to 111 km for electric range for the two all-wheel-drive models.

As an option, the new E-Class can be fitted with a steered rear axle, similar to that of the EQS , as well as Airmatic air suspension which allows the height of the vehicle to be adjusted. Pricing for all versions is yet to be determined, but Mercedes is expected to reveal it soon as orders will be accepted from this summer.
