It hasn't even had time to run on the streets , but the Porsche 911 GT3 RS can already claim to be one of the fastest production cars in the world after lapping the Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit in 6: 49.328 minutes.
The driver responsible for setting the fastest lap at the wheel of the 911 GT3 RS was Jörg Bergmeister . Compared to the time set by the conventional Porsche 911 GT3, the RS is 10.6 seconds quicker on the long Green Hell track. In short, the 911 GT3 RS stopped the clock in 6:44.848 minutes.
The new generation of the Porsche 911 GT3 RS has reduced the gap between racing cars and road cars. At first glance, it looks like another model from the Porsche Supercup , but it is homologated for road driving and is a production car in its own right.
Of course, it is today the most radical street Porsche that exists, it is even wilder than the GT2 RS of the previous generation of nine eleven. What we didn't expect was that it was almost 11 seconds faster in the Green Hell than the 911 GT3 from which it is derived.
Compared to the latter, the GT3 RS has 15 hp more, weighs about 30 kg more, has an even more radical configuration and, above all, an aerodynamics that has nothing to envy to a car of race, to the point that it has a spoiler with DRS.
On the price side, the 911 GT3 is on sale from 206,813 euros and the 911 GT3 RS from 265,404 euros . The unit used to achieve the fastest lap at the Nürburgring is equipped with the optional Weissach package, which increases the final bill by 41,512 euros (total 306,916 euros).
For this price, the Weissach package includes a carbon rear roll cage, carbon exterior elements such as the roof and mirror caps, chassis upgrades, lightweight forged magnesium rims and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires R, among others.
Thanks to all these elements and to an aerodynamics which, according to Porsche, generates three times more load at high speeds than the 911 GT3, the racing customer of the German brand more than passed the Nürburgring test.
“Today, the 911 GT3 RS delivered what it had already promised at first sight: absolute excellence on the racetrack,” says Andreas Preuninger, Head of GT Car at Porsche.
"We are satisfied with this performance given the vagaries of the weather with a significant headwind on the Döttinger Höhe straight and fairly low temperatures on the circuit". From an aerodynamic and chassis point of view, the 911 GT3 RS has new standards. According to Preuninger "no road car before this one had represented motor racing so well.
For his part, Frank Moser, vice-president of the 911 and 718 model ranges, who followed the fastest lap from the pit wall, said: "I am incredibly proud of what the whole team has achieved during development and testing of the new 911. GT3 RS. Today, Jörg Bergmeister has brought it all together and unleashed the car's full potential ."
As Moser puts it, "The choice of the rear engine is perfectly suited to high-performance sports cars."
Surpassing the performance of the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series and the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ, it became the fastest car on the Nüburgring circuit with a remarkable time of 6:43.300 minutes. The next creation of the 911 GT2 RS is expected to beat the score of its predecessor.
