The RAM 1500 enters the electric pickup competition to surpass Ford by equipping its model with a gigantic battery

Following the release of the Ford F-150 Lightning and the Chevrolet Silverado EV , RAM , a sister brand of Dodge belonging to the Stellantis Group , is also preparing to enter the race through its new electric model, the RAM 1500 REV .

Slated for 2025, this American pickup will offer a range of up to 805 km, which puts it at the top of the list against competitors such as the GMC Sierra EV , the Rivian R1T and, possibly, the Tesla Cybertruck . In short, RAM is shaping up to be a serious adversary for brands already established in the electric pick-up market.

RAM is working on a new version offering superior battery life

At the New York Auto Show , Stellantis showed off a new gas-powered sports car before unveiling its latest raging electric pickup, the RAM 1500 REV. Although RAM has taken longer than its competitors to bring a vehicle to this increasingly popular segment in the United States, the RAM 1500 REV appears, on paper at least, to be superior to its rivals in terms of range. The American brand's new pickup is based on the STLA Frame platform and is equipped with a 168 kWh battery in its conventional version, which allows it to travel up to 563 kilometers without recharging , a feat in the field of zero-emission vehicles.

If the range is not enough, RAM customers have the option of choosing the long-range option, which is equipped with a 229 kWh battery , offering up to 805 kilometers of range . This range is closer to that of a diesel pick-up than an electric one, but it should be noted that the battery of this version is by far the largest on the market.

Later, RAM might launch another model, the RAM 1500 R , with “devastating battery life,” according to the brand. However, it's likely that this variant uses a combustion engine that acts as a generator, effectively turning the pickup into an extended-range electric model .

The electrical architecture being 800 volts in all cases, ultra-fast charging up to 350 kW is possible. In addition, it is equipped with two electric motors, one for each axis, each generating 340 HP. Together they produce a maximum power of 663 hp and a maximum torque of 841 Nm.

Thanks to this power, the RAM 1500 REV will be able to tow up to 6,350 kg and will have a payload capacity of 1,225 kg. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds without load. Although it does not yet have a price, its marketing is planned for 2025 in North America.
