The Renault Clio has a new look, but the engines and interior have not changed, so it remains a similar utility

The current Renault Clio has been on the market for four years and it is time for it to undergo a restyling. Thus, the fifth generation of the Renault Clio has been redesigned with a completely new look at the front.

New, thinner headlamps (with LEDs on all versions), an enlarged grille, a redesigned lower part of the bumper and a new vertical and more imposing light signature than before have been added. In addition, it should be noted that among the many novelties, the Renault Clio stands out as one of the few commercial vehicles that retains the possibility of being equipped with a diesel engine.

The new appearance of the Clio , thanks to this new design, gives it a more expressive look. Renault attaches great importance to the attractiveness of the car's design, as this remains one of the main purchasing criteria for consumers. This is why Gilles Vidal , the chief designer of Renault , who worked on the design of the Peugeot 208 , one of the main competitors of the Clio, is well aware of the importance of design in the choice of customers.

Although Renault made significant changes to the exterior of the car, it only made minor changes to the interior elements. The ' Easy Link ' infotainment system is maintained with a 7 or 9.3-inch touchscreen in an upright position, while connection via Android Auto and Apple CarPlay is now done wirelessly.

The new Clio offers several technologies such as a 360-degree camera, level 2 autonomous driving assistance including adaptive cruise control with Stop & Go function , as well as parking assistance. Digital instrumentation is now standard, but screen size varies between 7 and 10 inches depending on trim level.

Renault recently announced that the new Clio upholstery will be made from recycled fabric, and there will be no option for leather upholstery. The seats, dashboard, door trim and headliner will be upholstered with recycled fabric.

The Clio now features the Esprit Alpine finish replacing the old RS Line , while Renault Sport no longer exists as a separate entity. This finish joins the other new finishes such as the Renault Austral and the Espace .

There are four types of engines, among which are a diesel engine and a hybrid engine

In the New Clio there are several engine options available. There's a 100hp Blue dCi diesel engine, as well as a small three-cylinder petrol engine that comes in three power versions: 65hp (SCe), 90hp (TCe) and 100hp (bifuel) .

According to Renault indications, the most effective after-treatment system for nitrogen oxides (NOx) is the selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system, which is fitted in the diesel engine in order to comply with new anti-pollution regulations. All diesel engines will be paired exclusively with a manual gearbox, and it will not be possible to choose an automatic transmission. For those who want an automatic transmission, the only option will be the Clio E-Tech Hybrid , which will be the most expensive in the lineup.

As far as mechanics are concerned, the new Renault Clio E-Tech retains the same powertrain with now 145 hp. It is equipped with a 94 hp gasoline engine and two electric motors. Renault announces an average fuel consumption of just 4.1 l/100 km in the WLTP combined cycle for this Clio E-Tech .

However, it should be noted that the small 1.2 kWh battery will reduce the boot volume to 301 litres, a decrease of 90 liters compared to the combustion engine versions which offer 391 litres.

Although the Blue dCi engine is produced at Renault's Valladolid plant and the Clio E-Tech gearbox continues to be manufactured at the Seville plant, the new Clio will be assembled in France.

Pricing for the new Renault Clio will be revealed this summer, with a first wave of deliveries scheduled for the last quarter of the year.
