The Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid debuts in North America, and we could see it in Mexico soon

The hybrid version of the Corolla Cross has been circulating for a long time in various corners of the world, but in North America its launch was on standby, until the brand's factory in Alabama was ready to produce electrified vehicles. Today that is already a reality, the Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid announces its specifications for our region, and hints at much of what we could see in Mexico soon.

Let's start with the obvious, the design. On the Corolla Cross that we already know, the Hybrid version receives a specific fascia and an exclusive grille design, as well as some tweaks in headlights and the possibility of carrying a contrasting roof if the colors Acidic Blast, Barcelona Red Metallic, Blue are chosen. Crush Metallic or Sonic Silver Metallic for the bodywork.

The most interesting, as expected, is in the mechanical configuration. It combines a 2.0-liter engine with two electric generator motors to develop a total of 194 hp , distributed between both axles through an all-wheel drive system. With these numbers, Toyota speaks of acceleration from 0 to 96 km/h in 8 seconds and fuel efficiency of 15.7 km/l in the combined cycle .

In the United States it will be available in five trim levels : S, SE, XSE, LE and XLE. Throughout the range, it will include wheels up to 18”, LED headlights, fabric or leather upholstery in different shades, heated front seats, two-zone automatic climate control, sunroof and an improved infotainment system, with an 8” screen. wireless compatibility with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, navigation with points of interest from Google, over-the-air updates and a smart assistant that responds to the command “Hey, Toyota”.

Another novelty, as in the 2023 Corolla Sedan, is the introduction of the new generation of Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 driving aids, with improvements in autonomous emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane line following, cruise control adaptive, automatic high beams, blind spot monitor, among others.

The launch of the 2023 Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid in the United States will take place in the coming months. The production of this model will take place in the facilities of the brand —shared with Mazda— in Alabama. There is no specific launch date in Mexico – nor an official confirmation – but we can almost guarantee that it will be available in our country in the course of 2023.
