Why did I like Retromobile 2022?

To follow up on the 2020 episode, and while Pierre has perfectly summed up the Retromobile show for you right here, here is a bonus little photo gallery of why I liked this 2022 edition.

We are not going to lie to each other, the 2022 vintage will not have lived up to the other vintages; but I was particularly happy to see the efforts made to return after two postponements canceled last year. Despite the uncertainties. We can therefore greatly thank the organizers! Thanks to them, you can find my favorites in this article. While Retromobile is well known for presenting cars for all budgets, and for all tastes, I have mainly focused this year on overpriced cars. Photographically speaking it goes without saying. Preferring to enjoy with the eyes of vehicles that could still be possible for ordinary mortals: such as pretty Mercedes from the 70s, the Alfa Romeo Giulia or even beautiful examples of Citroën 2CV and Fiat 500.

If many major international exhibitors were missing, we can congratulate Kidston, who, by his stand alone, made the trip profitable. Indeed, the English seller exhibited no less than 7 McLaren F1s, a feat! Especially since some copies were worth seeing, such as the F1 GT (#XP56GT) and especially the ex F1 #025 of Georges Harrisson (The Beatles) which had not been seen for many years .

Personally, I am always happy to discover all the Mercedes 300 SLs that Retromobile is full of. It is always difficult to count them. This year, HK Engineering is the only specialist to have moved with a very small stand and therefore only two copies were present throughout the show. Both red, yet we had the chance to see a “Gullwing” coupé and a roadster.

But fortunately, walking the aisles, we always come across a few nuggets. Here we could mention the Ferrari F40 at Pozzi, the 512 BB Competizione at Guikas GTC or the Porsche 911 997 Sport Classic at specialist Serge Heitz.

Lamborghini Polo Storico, which has honored us with its presence for several editions, came this year with the reconstruction of the prototype of the Countach LP500 presented in Geneva in 1971. A small piece of history reborn, in an impossible to miss yellow color .

Finally, the Artcurial house is always worth a visit to Rétromobile. For 2022, a quartet of Ferrari supercars have also been added to the catalog at the last minute. Visitors could therefore enjoy the Ferrari F40, F50, Enzo and LaFerrari lined up on the stand. Not far from there, there was a superb Murcielago with a manual gearbox or a Porsche 907 which took part in the 24 Hours of Le Mans 3 times. The Elva, McLaren's famous barquette is definitely having trouble finding a buyer and has not reached its reserve price (estimate €1.5-2,000,000).
